JOB SUMMARY

The Hospital Porter provides essential support in ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely movement of patients, equipment, supplies, and other items throughout the hospital. The incumbent will assist patients upon arrival, respond promptly to emergency calls, and provide courteous and professional service to patients, visitors, and staff at all times.

Main duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist incoming patients from transport as necessary and transport or guide them to the respective departments.
  • Assist discharged patients with leaving the facility, upon request.
  • Safely transport in-patients and out-patients to and from various hospital departments to access care and services.
  • Transport medical supplies, documents, equipment, and specimens as directed.
  • Assist with the changing and safe handling of medical gas cylinders as needed.
  • Respond with urgency and professionalism to emergency calls requiring patient transport or support services.
  • Ensure wheelchairs, stretchers, and other portering equipment are clean, functional, and available for use.
  • Observe and report any unusual incidents, safety hazards, or security concerns immediately to a Supervisor.
  • Support the hospital’s infection prevention and control protocols, including hand hygiene and equipment sanitation.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by a Supervisor in keeping with the role.

Academic Qualifications & Experience required for job:
  • High School School-Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a hospital, healthcare, or customer service setting would be an asset.
  • Customer Service Training an Asset
  • CPR/AED Training

  • B.Sc in Midwifery OR

Job Summary:

Qualification and Experience:

  • Completion of Primary Education
  • At least two (2) CSEC subjects would be a definite asset

Specific Knowledge/Skills Required:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Polishing all furniture at least once per month or more, if necessary.
  • Cobwebbing all rooms, verandahs and open spaces.
  • Cleaning and maintaining of bathrooms during clinic hours, ensuring that there is no overflow of waste on the floor on from the bins.
  • Cleaning windows which can be conveniently reached from the floor.
  • Cleaning shelves and cupboards once per month or as often as required.
  • Reporting any problems that may affect the smooth flow of work.
  • Assisting with the ushering of patients and maintaining order in the waiting areas.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma in Management Studies, Public Administration, Personnel Management, Business Administration
  • At least two (2) years in Customer Service or performing related functions
Specific Knowledge Required:
