Medical Officers (Kingston, Jamaica) - Heart Institute of the Caribbean

 


The Medical Officer, in collaboration with our specialist doctors, cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeon, will be required to provide exceptional patient care duties within the scope of their clinical privileges.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate must possess the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine from an accredited institution
  • License to practice medicine
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a similar capacity
  • Indemnity/Malpractice Insurance

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Follow best practice protocols and standards of care necessary to ensure delivery of high-quality medical services to patients consistent with international standards
  • Work as a hospitalist in our 24-bed hospital when assigned
  • Participate as a digital healthcare service provider by phone, text, or video
  • Perform general pre- and post-operative care
  • Undertake patient consultations and physical examinations and assess and plan treatment requirements
  • Monitor and administer medication for in-patients
  • Liaise/ consult with specialist doctors on patient care or treatment
  • Assume the role of Research Associate within the organization, responsible for literature reviews, study design and coordination, data collection and abstraction, manuscript preparation and presentations
  • Provide outpatient, emergency and inpatient consultations to patients under the supervision of Consultant Cardiologists and Intensivists
  • Research and present cases Case clinical and clinical conferences and journal clubs
  • Participate in on-Call and ER schedules
  • Participate with Management and Clinical Leadership in strategic planning and development of the cardiac emergency services at HIC including branding and marketing initiatives designed to promote the services
  • Meet as necessary with Team Leaders and other Members of Management to review clinical issues and offer suggestions.
  • Participate in marketing and community service programs (including Speaking engagements) as necessary to further the mission of HIC.
  • Maintain an open and flexible attitude when asked to play other roles within the Institution and the community to further the goals of HIC and,
  • Perform other duties necessary and required to promote, advance and improve the quality of cardiac emergency services at HIC
