Hospital Attendant (St. Mary, Jamaica) - Annotto Bay Hospital (NERHA)


 The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a strong, dynamic, and proactive individuals to fill the position of Hospital Attendant (Portering) (HSC/HS 1) at the Annotto Bay Hospital.

Summary:
Under the general direction of the Supervisory Hospital Attendant/Hospital Administrator, the Hospital
Attendant will be required to:

Required Qualification & Experience:
  • Complete school to grade 9 level
  • Be physically fit and able to bend, stand and lift

Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of excellent customer service delivery
  • Knowledge of lifting techniques
  • Knowledge of organizing and prioritizing work
  • Working Knowledge of Health Hazards
Key responsibilities will include but not limited:
  • Required to transport patients to Out-patients clinics, Casualty, to the Wards, for laboratory and x-ray services. This is done with wheelchairs and stretchers given the required situation
  • Required to lift and support patients who are unable to walk
  • Assigned to work with ambulance service periodically
  • Required to deliver items from one area of the hospital to another
  • Required to assist in maintaining the hospital buildings and compound by assisting in the cleaning of same
  • Required to empty and clean all garbage receptacles and replace them in their appropriate areas
  • Required to clean and keep in good condition, all the tools he has to work with eg. Wheelchairs, stretchers, etc.
REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:

Salary Scale: $ 916,530 –$ 1,089,466

Summary:
Under the general direction of the Parish Administrator, the Clinic Attendant ensures clean and safe
environment for patients and staff through the infection control policy and procedures

Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • Completed school to grade 9 level
  • Valid food handler’s permit
  • Two (2) years working independently in a housekeeping role.
Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of excellent customer service delivery
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures for using specialized chemicals
  • Working Knowledge of Infection Control
  • Knowledge of organizing and prioritizing work
  • Working Knowledge of Health Hazards

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Opening and Closing of Health Facility

  • Wiping of Floor in the facility

  • Preparing Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS)
  • Ensuring that tissue and soap is in bathrooms
  • Preparing cotton and gauze for dressing
  • Dusting and removing of cobwebs in facility
  • Emptying of garbage bins and properly disposing of garbage

The Role

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) respond to medical emergencies and deliver patient care, support and evaluation in a pre-hospital setting, like on scene and during transport to the hospital.
