Summary:

Under the general direction of the Supervisory Hospital Attendant/Hospital Administrator, the Hospital
Attendant ensures clean and safe environment for patients and staff through the infection control policy and
procedures
Required Qualification & Experience:

  • Completed school to grade 9 level
  • Valid food handler’s permit
  • Two (2) years working independently in a housekeeping role.
Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of excellent customer service delivery
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures for using specialized chemicals
  • Working Knowledge of Infection Control
  • Knowledge of organizing and prioritizing work
  • Working Knowledge of Health Hazards

Key responsibilities will include but not limited:
  • Check and receive ward on each shift
  • Ensure cleaning agents are available in your assigned area
  • Mop and sanitize the floor.
  • Polish and shine required areas
  • Clean general areas
  • Clean and monitor lavatories
  • Assist with sterilizing soiled linens
  • Washing and ironing of bed linens, pantry linens and other linens for facility on a daily basis
  • Collect linens from laundry
  • Empty of garbage bins and properly disposing of garbage
  • Collect cleaning materials/ supplies for the units
  • Check inventory and store utensils appropriate
REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
  • Salary Scale: $ 990,843 - 1,177,801 per annum

Enrolled Assistant Nurse (St. Mary, Jamaica) - Port Maria & Annotto Bay Hospitals (NERHA)

Reporting to the Director, Nursing Services the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the administration of nursing services within the hospital.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma in Enrolled Assistant Nursing from a recognized learning institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica as an Enrolled Assistant Nurse

Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of current legislation affecting the practice of Nursing in Jamaica
  • Knowledge of the Staff Orders for the Public Service.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with the admission, discharge and transfer of patients
  • Assisting in explaining hospital rules and routines to patients
  • Sharing responsibility for a safe and comfortable environment for the patients

  • Preparing patients for and assisting doctors and nurses in examination, treatment and diagnostic tests
  • Sharing responsibility for the control of infection
  • Preparing instruments and equipment for storage and sterilization
  • Sterilizing instruments and equipment
  • Sharing responsibility for keeping the patient’s unit clean and tidy
  • Assist in receiving, checking and storing supplies
  • Perform simple dressings
  • Administering medications excluding dangerous drugs as ordered e.g., orally, rectally or by injectionsubcutaneous and intramuscular and carrying out other treatments as assigned
  • Co-operating with other members of staff and accepting guidance and corrections

Health Records Clerk (St. Mary, Jamaica) - St. Mary Health Department (NERHA)

 The North East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health, with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary, and Portland, is seeking to fill the position of Health Records Clerk at the St. Mary Health Department. The incumbent will be responsible for to compile, process and maintain the health records in a manner consistent with medical administrative, ethical, legal and regulatory requirements of the health care facility.

Qualification and Experience will include:
  • Five (5) CXC/GCE subjects at the ordinary level (O’level) are required including English Language, Mathematics and Biology (preferably Human and Social Biology).
  • Diploma in Computer applications inclusive of word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ working experience.

Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Sound knowledge of policies and practices involved in health records science
  • Health Records Service Manual
  • Medical Records Manual –: Guide for Developing Countries
  • Jamaica Medical Records Code of Ethics
  • Monthly Clinic Statistical Report (MCSR) Manual
  • Staff Order
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Protect the security of the health records, ensuring that confidentiality is maintained
  • Gathering of demographic, geographic and health related data and history from all new patients upon registration, asking all the prompt questions on the form
  • Preparing patient service record for the appropriate clinic
  • Entering of patient’s particular in Daily Register log book to facilitate tally of all registered patients
  • Entering of data on the sentinel forms for each registration
  • Entering of patient record particulars for retrieved records in the record request log book
  • Register all patients for the various clinics
  • Ensure that all health records are assigned to clinic locations
  • Retrieve all health records for appointment
  • Communicate with patient/client as the need arise in relation to their appointment

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:
  • Diploma or Associate degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from a recognized tertiary institution. Or
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from a recognized tertiary institution (Without approved Dietetics/Nutrition Internship or Supervised Practice Program).
  • Two (2) years working experiences

Specific Knowledge & Skills Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, principles, and applications of nutrition assessment and diet counselling
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, principles, and approaches of nutrition and health education.

SUPERVISORY HOSPITAL ATTENDANT (St. Mary, Jamaica) - North-East Regional Health Authority (NERHA)

individual to fill the position of SUPERVISORY HOSPITAL ATTENDANT (HSC/HS 3) for the Port Maria Hospital.

Summary:
Under the general direction of the Hospital Administrator, the incumbent is responsible for the
supervision of housekeeping personnel in all departments; coordinating activities to ensure areas
are properly cleaned in a timely manner; preparing rosters, assigning duties, inspecting work,
investigating complaints regarding housekeeping services, and taking corrective action(s).

Requirements:
  • Grade 9 Primary Education
  • NCTVET certificate in Housekeeping (Level 2-3)
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management
  • A minimum of one (1) year work experience in a similar position would be an asset.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing rosters and assigning work to cleaning personnel for all areas of the hospital, and selected residences.
  • Ensuring standards of cleanliness, hygiene and tidiness are maintained throughout the facility and taking corrective actions where necessary.
  • Attending Infection Control Committee meetings.
  • Inspecting work of Hospital Attendants assigned to the laundry for conformance to prescribed standards of cleanliness.
  • Supervising operations of Laundry, ensuring timely washing, drying, repairing of linen and
  • distribution to wards.
  • Ensuring proper management of shifts.
  • Ordering and maintaining stocks to ensure adequate supplies of cleaning materials/tools are
available for use.

Under the general supervision of the Dietetic Assistant or Head Cook, the Cook will have the
responsibility to prepare and portion meals as well as other activities associated with maintaining the kitchen in a safe and sanitary manner.

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:

  • Secondary/High School Diploma or equivalent
  • NVQ-J certification from an approved institution or on the job training
  • Valid Food Handler’s permit
Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Knowledge of methods and equipment used in preparing food on a large scale
  • Basic knowledge of nutrition
  • Knowledge of reading recipes, menus and orders
  • Knowledge of the proper use and care of various kinds of specialized kitchen equipment
  • Knowledge of basic HACCP principles

Key Responsibility Areas:
  • Prepare meals and / or assigned menu items for patients and staff according to the menu in a sanitary and timely manner
  • Portion in bulk and individually plate prepared meals (regular and special diets) for the various wards as determined by the supervisor

Summary:

Under the general direction of the Hospital Administrator, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision of
the portering staff.

Requirements:

  • Grade 9 Primary Education
  • NCTVET certificate in Housekeeping (Level 2-3)
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management
  • A minimum of one (1) year work experience in a similar position would be an asset.
Required Skills and Specialized Techniques
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to express ideas in writing and orally.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills Ability to work as part of a team to foster a cordial and equitable working environment for subordinates.
  • Working knowledge of the organization and operations of the work areas.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Prepares duty roster for Attendants (Porters).
  • Ensures subordinates are properly attired in their prescribed uniforms with ID Badges affixed.
  • Ensures subordinates are at their assigned work stations at the beginning of and throughout each work day.
  • Monitors and ensures that each Porter signs/clocks in and out his/her own time card/attendance register.
  • Ensures adequate coverage by portering staff and work tools (stretchers, wheelchairs, etc) at the designated work areas
  • Prepares vacation leave rosters for subordinates and makes recommendations to the Hospital Administrator in relation to coverage and overtime schedules.
  • Ensure that claims submitted are thoroughly checked and accurate.
  • Ensure that Performance Evaluations for subordinates are competed and submitted to the Hospital Administrator within stipulated timeframes.
  • Makes recommendations to the Hospital Administrator in relation to disciplinary actions, training and
  • the overall enhancement of the staff supervised.
  • Prepares and submits all requisite reports as required by the Hospital Administrator within the stipulated timeframes.

  • Salary Scale: $ 1,332,574 – 1,584,011 per annum.

Artisan (St.Mary, Jamaica) - Annotto Bay Hospital (NERHA)

 

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health and
Wellness, with responsibility for the management and delivery of Public Health Services within the
parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary, and Portland invites applications from suitable qualified persons to
fill the position of ARTISAN (LMO/TS 4) (Electrical/Plumbing) at the Annotto Bay Hospital.

The ideal candidate must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level/CXC inclusive of Mathematics and English.
  • Level 2 Certification in related technical field from NCTVET.
  • A Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Plumber, Electrician.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND SPECIALISED TECHNIQUES
  • Possesses the willingness and ability to work scheduled weekends, holidays and shifts.
  • Work on an unscheduled basis and in the event of an emergency.
  • Ability to stand, sit, bend, stoop as necessary to supervise and perform maintenance and repairs.
  • Possesses manual dexterity and finger coordination to grasp, hold, turn or squeeze objects, tools and equipment.
  • Possesses a sense of touch necessary to distinguish texture and temperature during the performance of maintenance and repairs duties.
  • Possesses a sense of vision and hearing at a necessary level to diagnose problems, use tools and implement preventative or corrective solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
  • Carrying out general electrical or plumbing work when necessary.
  • Installing, repairing and maintaining plumbing system in facilities at the facility, inclusive of replacing & repairing leaking pipes, clearing blocked drains & pipes, installing wash hand basins & toilet bowls
  • Performing all plumbing duties related to plant equipment such as water and sewage pumps, washing machines, sterilizers, water heaters, etc.
  • Assisting with repairs and maintenance of electrical components to include replacing & repairing damaged bulbs, switches, receptacles, plugs and other fixtures
  • Servicing and repair autoclaves under supervision
  • Testing and service department generator under supervision to ensure good working condition
  • Servicing oxygen cylinders and compressors
  • Responding to routine and emergency calls for repairs and services
  • Assisting in testing and doing general maintenance checks on generator under supervision to ensure good working condition.
  • Servicing oxygen cylinders and compressors under supervision.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:

Salary Scale: $ 1,711,060 – 2,301,208 per annum

Enrolled Assistant Nurse (St. Mary, Jamaica) - Annotto Bay Hospital (NERHA)

 


The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, invites applications from suitably qualified persons with strong team building skills to fill the position of ENROLLED ASSISTANT NURSE - (HTAC/EAN 1) at the Annotto Bay Hospital.
Reporting to the Director, Nursing Services the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the
administration of nursing services within the hospital.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A graduate of a recognized School of Nursing.
  • Enrolled with the Nursing Council of Jamaica.

Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of current legislation affecting the practice of Nursing in Jamaica
  • Knowledge of the Staff Orders for the Public Service.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with the admission, discharge and transfer of patients
  • Assisting in explaining hospital rules and routines to patients
  • Sharing responsibility for a safe and comfortable environment for the patients
  • Assisting patients in moving and turning, getting in and out of bed, positioning and walking as needed
  • Assisting with the inter-facility transportation of patients
  • Maintaining personal hygiene of the patient according to the needs and condition; that is bathing, cutting

  • Assisting with the preparation of patient’s meals and in the feeding of patients

  • Measuring heights and weights
  • Observing symptoms, reactions, attitudes and changes in the patient’s condition; and report to the
  • Registered Nurse
  • Preparing patients for and assisting doctors and nurses in examination, treatment and diagnostic tests
  • Sharing responsibility for the control of infection
  • Preparing instruments and equipment for storage and sterilization
  • Sterilizing instruments and equipment
  • Sharing responsibility for keeping the patient’s unit clean and tidy
  • Assist in receiving, checking and storing supplies
  • Perform simple dressings
  • Administering medications excluding dangerous drugs as ordered e.g., orally, rectally or by injectionsubcutaneous and intramuscular and carrying out other treatments as assigned
  • Co-operating with other members of staff and accepting guidance and corrections

Salary Scale: $2,078,360 – $2,470,517 per annum

SPECIALIST NURSE – HPC/RN 2
The Western Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness,
with responsibility for the management and delivery of Public Health Services within the parishes of Hanover, St. James, Trelawny and Westmoreland invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Specialist Nurse for the Noel Holmes Hospital in Hanover, the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, St. James, Falmouth Hospital in Trelawny and the Savanna-la-mar Hospital in Westmoreland.

Reporting to the Public Health Nurse, the incumbent will be responsible to give advanced level of care to
patients who may have life threatening illnesses, undergoing surgery or have specific health needs requiring
specialized Nursing intervention.

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:
  • BSc. in Nursing / Midwifery
  • Minimum of Four (4) years work experience
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
Related Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice
  • Knowledge of medical machinery, resuscitative drugs, their dosages and side effects
  • Knowledge of basic principles of management
  • Ability of observe, assess, and evaluate life threatening conditions and apply appropriate interventions
  • Ability to make calculated and quick decisions and to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with members of the health team as well as patients and relatives
  • Emotionally and mentally stable
Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care of patients
  • Anticipates potential nursing problems and develops appropriate plans to deal with same
  • Initiates patient management in crisis situations e.g. cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Conducts and supervises prenatal, intra-natal, postnatal and total maternal and child healthcare including family care
  • Monitors and interprets data presented by mechanical devices and takes appropriate action
  • Interprets bio-chemical data and acts accordingly
  • Other duties as assigned

REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
  • Salary Scale: $4,032,538 – 4,793,421 per annum along with any other allowance(s) attached to the post.
