Theatre Nurse (RN) - Montego Bay, Jamaica - Hospiten Jamaica

DESCRIPTION
Registered Nurse with experience as Theatre Nurse

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for assessing patients’ health problems and needs, collaborating with multidisciplinary team members; educating patients on their illness and condition, developing and implementing patient care plans, helping in rehabilitation, and providing emotional support to patients’ families.

Provides nursing services in the operating theatre and take care of patients needs in the recovery room.

ACTIVITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care set by Nursing Council of Jamaica;
  • As a registered nurse in Theatre:
  • Prepares the patient before and after surgery by washing and disinfecting the area for surgery;
  • Assists in bringing the patient to the operating room;
  • Scrubs, assist surgeon during the procedure (holding instruments under the direction of a surgeon, sponging or suctioning the site of an operation, cutting suture material and applying wound dressings) or circulates as required;
  • Assist nursing/medical staff in keeping patient safe during the procedure;
  • Using consent forms to verify the surgical procedure that is going to be performed, checking patients' charts and assisting anaesthesiologists;
  • Assist other staff in moving patient from operating theatre to recovery room and them to assigned room;
  • Provides assistance to the surgical team and coordinates very closely with multidisciplinary team in theatre;
  • Takes specimens obtained for testing following laboratory procedures/protocol;
  • Maintains and keeps the operating room ready for surgeries and ensures everything is running smoothly before surgery;
  • Clean and disinfect surgical instruments and or equipment after surgeries;
  • Respect the correct sterilize uniform inside the operating room when scrubbing: sterile gloves, sterile surgical gown, surgical cap, surgical mask;
  • Prepare surgical instrument and equipment for autoclaving/sterilization per protocol;
  • Maintains and keeps all surgical tools sterile and orderly;
  • Identify and maintain adequate necessary supplies in the operating room;
  • Prepare necessary equipment and instrument prior to procedure/surgery;
  • Put the sterile gowns and gloves on the surgeon and surgical assistants.

Duties include:
  • Assisting parents with getting children ready for school in the morning, and evenings for bedtime (children are at school all day)
  • Other duties: Assist with cooking, washing/ironing and general housekeeping
Salary starts at $8,000 per week.
