Summary of Duties
The incumbent is responsible for the preparation of meals for the residents of the St. Catherine Infirmary's Compound, as per menu established by the Matron, Infirmary or her nominee.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certificate in the Culinary Arts/HEART/NSTA Trust Commercial Food Preparation level 1
- Pass in Home Economics at High School level
- At least one (1) year experience in cooking for large groups. Previous experience at hospital/infirmary/golden age home would be an asset
- Valid food handler's permit
- Knowledgeable of basic Mathematical principles (addition and subtraction)
- Knowledgeable of government's/Ministry's policies and procedures relevant to the kitchen environment
- Knowledge of nutrition and menu planning can be an asset
- Be proactive
- Have a strong desire to be early for work - work begins at 5:30 am or as the shift dictates
- Have a pleasant personality and should be highly self-motivated
- Possess the ability to speak to all category of people without creating a hostile environment
- Possess the ability to write a report - should the need arises
- Pre-prepare food items for next meal based on dietary needs of residents
- Assist with washing dishes, pots and utensils
- Clear garbage from the kitchen area and remove it to storage
- Cook and serves meal in hot working environment
- Be creative, enthusiastic and have a consistent, positive work attitude
- Required to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays
- Be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs and movement of the whole body for the purpose of lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and standing for long periods
