Registered Midwife (St. Mary, St. Ann & Portland - Jamaica) - NERHA

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness, with responsibility for the management and delivery of Public Health Services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary, and Portland invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Registered Midwife for the Annotto Bay, Port Antonio & St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital. Reporting to the Ward/Nurse Manager the incumbent gives advanced level of care to patients who need midwifery care before, during and after birth of a baby.

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:
  • B.Sc in Midwifery OR
  • B. Sc in Nursing with a Certificate/Diploma in Midwifery from an accredited institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Identifies nursing needs of each patient and make care plan
  • Observes, reports, records signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors and progress of the patient and intervened appropriately
  • Assigns the staff members and delegated duties according to skill and competence
  • Executes therapeutic orders intelligently and appropriately
  • Participates in ward conferences
  • Interviews and Counsels patients and relatives as needs indicated
  • Supervises and participates in antenatal and postnatal care and deliveries
  • Liaises with medical, paramedical and the primary care personnel in promoting linkages and discharge planning
  • Assumes responsibility for ordering and storage of Ward stocks, dangerous drugs and carried out handing over procedure
  • Maintains physical safety and emotional support for patients

Enrolled Assistant Nurse - (HTAC/EAN 2) (Portland, Jamaica) - Portland Health Department (NERHA)


 ENROLLED ASSISTANT NURSE - (HTAC/EAN 2)

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, invites applications from suitably qualified persons with strong team building skills to fill the position of Enrolled Assistant Nurse for the Portland Health Department. Reporting to the Senior Public Health Nurse the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the administration of nursing services within the health department.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma in Enrolled Assistant Nursing from a recognized learning institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica as an Enrolled Assistant Nurse
  • Certification in Supervisory Management
  • At least three (3) years’ experience as an Enrolled Assistant Nurse 1.

Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of current legislation affecting the practice of Nursing in Jamaica

Patient Care Assistant (St. Ann, Jamaica) - St. Ann's Bay Regional Hospital


 The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness
with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a strong, dynamic, and proactive individual to fill the position of Patient Care Assistant at the St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital.

Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing Services, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision of housekeeping personnel in all departments; coordinating activities to ensure areas are properly cleaned in a timely manner; preparing rosters, assigning duties, inspecting work, investigating complaints regarding housekeeping services, and taking corrective action(s).

Requirements:
  • Completed Secondary School Education;
  • Certificate/Diploma in Practical Nursing or its equivalent from an accredited tertiary institution;
  • Training in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR);
  • Three (3) years’ experience performing similar duties.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Caring of patients’ units
  • Feeding helpless patients
  • Collecting routine urine specimen
  • Collecting stool specimen and any other specimen
  • Accompanying patients for procedures
  • Making beds, cribs and bassinets.
  • Assisting patients to and from wheelchair/stretcher.
  • Caring for patients’ skin, mouth, hands, and feet.
  • Caring of pressure areas.
  • Combing and brushes patients’ hair.
  • Tidying patients’ environment for hand over to next shift.
  • Preparing dressing and equipment for sterilization
  • Assisting in admission of patients:
  • Putting patient to bed
  • Helping unpack belongings
  • Ensuring custodial care of belongings according to hospital’s policy
  • Assisting in discharge of patients:
  • Returning belongings to patients/family according to hospital’s policy
  • Accompanying patient to hospital’s entrance exit
  • Caring of hospital equipment e.g. suction machine
  • Maintaining sterility of pick-up forceps.
  • Making dressings and assists with packing drums.
REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
  • Salary Scale: $ 1,792,163 – 2,130,319 per annum

Full-time Nurse (St. Catherine, Jamaica) - Rusal (WINDALCO)

 The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, invites applications from suitably qualified persons with strong team building skills to fill the position of ENROLLED ASSISTANT NURSE - (HTAC/EAN 1) for the Port Maria and Annotto Bay Hospitals. Reporting to the Director, Nursing Services the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the administration of nursing services within the hospital.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma in Enrolled Assistant Nursing from a recognized learning institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica as an Enrolled Assistant Nurse

Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of current legislation affecting the practice of Nursing in Jamaica
  • Knowledge of the Staff Orders for the Public Service.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with the admission, discharge and transfer of patients
  • Assisting in explaining hospital rules and routines to patients
  • Sharing responsibility for a safe and comfortable environment for the patients
  • Assisting patients in moving and turning, getting in and out of bed, positioning and walking as needed
  • Assisting with the inter-facility transportation of patients
  • Maintaining personal hygiene of the patient according to the needs and condition; that is bathing, cutting nails, combing hair, oral hygiene
  • Assisting with the preparation of patient’s meals and in the feeding of patients
  • Assisting with the patient in dressing and undressing
  • Giving, removing and checking bed pans and urinals
  • Changing linen and making beds
  • Administering alcohol or tepid sponges to reduce body temperature
  • Collecting specimens of urine, faeces, sputum and vomitus
  • Observing temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressures of patients
  • Measuring heights and weights
  • Observing symptoms, reactions, attitudes and changes in the patient’s condition; and report to the Registered Nurse
  • Preparing patients for and assisting doctors and nurses in examination, treatment and diagnostic tests
  • Sharing responsibility for the control of infection
  • Preparing instruments and equipment for storage and sterilization
  • Sterilizing instruments and equipment
  • Sharing responsibility for keeping the patient’s unit clean and tidy
  • Assist in receiving, checking and storing supplies
  • Perform simple dressings
  • Administering medications excluding dangerous drugs as ordered e.g., orally, rectally or by injectionsubcutaneous and intramuscular and carrying out other treatments as assigned
  • Co-operating with other members of staff and accepting guidance and corrections

REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
  • Salary Scale: $2,078,360 – $2,470,517 per annum

Job Summary

  • Giving advice, counselling and instructions to subordinates; hears and resolve complaints, and refers group grievances and unresolved complaints to higher supervisory authority.
  • Acting as resource person at the local level in the dissemination of oral health information.
  • Attending and participating in meetings at clinic, health district, and parish level.
  • Attending and participating in training sessions planned for dental staff.
  • Liaising with other health care providers and non-government organizations.
