Job Summary

The sessional registered nurse will provide support to the Occupational Health Unit to aid in delivering optimal care to those visiting the unit by delivering basic health related services to both staff and contractors.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • BSc in Nursing
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
  • Certified in BLS or ACLS
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years medical surgical nursing experience
  • Level two (2) certification in Emergency Room Nursing/Critical Care would be an asset
  • Experience in Occupational Health & Safety is an asset

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Carries out thorough assessment of patients who are experiencing urgent and non-urgent symptoms and administer treatment within the legal scope
  • Identifies On-the-job injuries, treats and reports promptly according to policy and transports to appropriate facility for further management if necessary
  • Conducts wellness checks at various departments during shift 
  • Identifies workplace hazards, reports and attempts to reduce risks within your scope
  • Conducts regular follow-ups for workers on extended sick leave due to personal or on-the-job injury
  • Conducts risk assessment as a means of infectious disease prevention and control
  • Participates in company programs and activities that may include offsite functions
  • Compiles, prepares and presents where necessary, health and wellness tips/information to be circulated to the general staff
  • Assists in maintaining an effective and accurate medical record system
  • Manages and tracks inventory of medical supplies
  • Able to work at least three (3) duties per week, which may include nights and weekends
  • Performs any other work related duties assigned which is consistent with competency, job function and position
Key Competencies:
  • Proficient in the use of medical instruments and equipment
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent observational skills
  • Compassionate, patient and confidential in emergency situations
  • Ability to maintain composure and work effectively within groups
  • Ability to diagnose and make prompt decisions in emergencies
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Senior Nurse (St. Catherine, Jamaica) - RUSAL (WINDALCO)

Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Supervising the operations of the Industrial Health Centre to include the provision of 24-hr nursing service coverage
  • Making decisions regarding the treatment and management of occupational emergencies and illnesses
  • Selecting, ordering and monitoring all medical supplies to include equipment and medication needed for the Industrial Health Centre

Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Paramedic team in the capacity of:
Sessional Nurse (Contract)

Location: Kingston

As a Sessional Nurse, you will:
  • Conduct client interviews and assessments for internal and external clients:
  • Interview, obtain history, and document all medical information received from clients.
  • Conduct pre-employment medicals for internal and external clients.
  • Assess clients’ physical condition during the paramedical and ensure medical forms are signed and witnessed appropriately.
  • Assess and counsel staff with medical emergencies. Administer treatment and monitor the sickbay. Educate team members on personal and communal health.
  • Perform annual wellness medical evaluation.
  • Perform venepuncture and electrocardiogram tracing.
  • Supervise the collection and sorting of samples for the laboratories.
  • Assist in the proper administration of the unit by:
  • Providing accurate and timely responses to queries.
  • Ensuring that the receptionist carries out his/ her duties and responsibilities efficiently and with courtesy.
  • Work as support team to doctors.
  • Prepare medical facilities for the comfort and privacy of the clients.
  • Perform other related duties assigned from time to time.

What do you need?
  • Successful completion of the State registered Nurse designation.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Post graduate courses in nursing or related fields.
  • At least five (5) years’ working experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Ability to effectively operate an Electrocardiogram machine.
  • Sound human relations and communications (oral and written) skills.
  • Expert knowledge of interviewing techniques, medical data collection and counselling/staff counselling.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Phlebotomy skills.
  • A vast knowledge of Medicine.
