The Nurse is responsible for projecting and integrating the Mission and Core Values of the organization as well as implementation of efficient and timely patient management.


SUMMARY
Supports the diagnosis and treatment of HIV/AIDS and other STI’s and is responsible for the triage area and nurse-station by performing the following duties.

  • Ensures timely patient care and efficient and smooth patient flow in the clinic.

  • Performs and accurately records basic tests including checking vital signs, weight and height; testing urine; glucose and other basic rapid tests.
  • Manages patient appointment system.
  • Assists with the inventory management of all items required for patient care and report to the Operations Manager any defective equipment or low stock.
  • Assist with patient retention in care through missed appointment logs and strict appointment follow ups.
  • Prepares all relevant reports as required.
  • Participate in outreach and advocacy events outside of working hours.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist with special assignments as instructed by the Caribbean Regional Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Training and skills to performing phlebotomy, HIV/Syphilis Rapid Tests.

OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE OF WORK

The Clinical Dietitian (HTAC/NDT 2) utilizes critical thinking skills to interpret and translate scientific and medical decisions relating to nutrition and health in resolving nutrition problems and concerns of patients throughout the lifecycle. Use actions of nutrition assessment, nutrition intervention, nutrition monitoring and evaluation to identify problems and formulate solutions and document in patient medical records. When functioning in an organization that provides food service, the Clinical Dietitian cooperates and coordinates activities with those of the Department Management Team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

NUTRITION ASSESSMENT

A Systematic process of collecting, verifying, and interpreting data in to make decisions about the nature and cause of nutrition-related problems.
  • Identify patients needing nutrition care through attendance on ward rounds and referrals.
  • Collect anthropometric and biochemical measures, clinical and dietary data.
  • Collect and analyze information and behavioral status.
  • Review dietary intake for factor that affects health conditions and nutrition risks.
  • Evaluate anthropometric and biochemical measurements clinical and dietary data.
Nutrition diagnosis is the identification and labeling of that describes and actual occurrence, risk of, and potential for developing a nutritional problem.
  • Utilize critical thinking to analyze nutrition assessment data in medical record.
  • Document in medical record, revise and update nutrition diagnosis statement.

Nutrition intervention is a purposefully planned set of actions designed with the intent of changing nutrition, related behavior, risk factor, environmental condition or aspect of health status for individual patient in group.
  • Develop a nutrition care plan for individuals or groups.
  • Identify desired outcomes/goals of nutrition care based on the assessment of the client’s needs.
  • Select the appropriate method to achieve these goals.
  • Involve patients and other healthcare team members in the goal development process.
Implement a nutrition care plan for individuals or groups.
  • Communicate with client(s) concerning his/her role in implementing the plan.
  • Communicate dietary plans concerning patients with foodservice

NUTRITION SUPPORT
  • Apply knowledge of special Dietary products their composition application and their condition to the nutrition care of patients.
  • Confer with physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate medical and nutritional needs, and make recommendations for:
  • Enteral nutrition support/tube feeding
  • Parental nutrition support (Intravenous feedings)
  • Oral Supplementation
CLINICAL ADMINISTRATION
  • Complete one or more special projects per year.
  • Conduct orientation and in-service training programs for employees and staff. 3. Inform health care team about laws regulations and guidelines related to nutrition care.

Radiographer (Negril, Westmoreland, Jamaica) - Omega Medical Services

Perform x-rays for diagnostic purposes. Follow established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety

  • Preparing examination rooms for patient procedures.

  • Producing diagnostic images, reporting important information to the Physician, and updating patients' records.
  • General ultrasonography is an asset but not a requirement
  • Organizing the daily procedure schedules for emergencies and monitoring radiographic supplies.
  • Performing administrative tasks, such as answering technical questions, scheduling appointments, and offering pre-procedure advice.
  • Performing scheduled maintenance on radiographic equipment

Required Qualifications:
  • BSc. Radiography and Diagnostic Imaging
  • License to practice radiography.
  • Knowledge of radiologic standards, requirements, and regulations
  • Knowledge of radiologic safety, cleanliness and infection control policies and regulations
  • Knowledge of radiologic equipment uses and maintenance.

Medical Officer (HPC/MO 3) 

Job Purpose 

The Medical Officer 3 is responsible for assessing, evaluating and prescribing treatment for the patients/clients through the Medical Services Branch; making appropriate referrals for further treatment that cannot be managed appropriately in the Branch. S/he will, through the medical director assist in the strategic planning, policy formulation and research activities within the Branch, as well as provide supervision for the Family Nurse Practitioner, other senior nurses and clinical support staff.

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

  • MMBS degree or equivalent in Medicine
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical School plus five (5) years relevant experience
  • Post graduate qualifications in a specialized area of medicine
  • Post graduate training in Management or Public Health

Patient Care Assistant (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Constabulary Force

Patient Care Assistant (HSC/HS 6)

Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Nursing Staff, the incumbent is responsible for providing support to the Medical Services Branch, facilitating general patient care and maintaining a hygienic, safe and orderly facility in keeping with the objectives of the Branch. 

Key Responsibility Areas

Technical/Professional Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the preparation for conducting all clinics in an efficient manner, e.g. sterilisation of equipment, etc
  • Assists with the organization and maintenance of order and discipline in the clinical area
  • Assists with the admission of patients engaging in such activities as "pulling cards", weighing and recording
  • Record vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse or respiration rate as required
  • Assists with explaining the intake forms when necessary 
  • Prepares patients for physical examination
  • Assists with the administration of immunizations as directed
  • Assists with dressings and treatments of minor ailments as directed 
  • Participates in post-clinic discussions that should embody evaluation and continuity of patient care
  • Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies
  • Assists with the organization of healthy lifestyle clinics
  • Assists with the administration of immunizations
  • Assists with the distribution of supplement and medication as well as applying simple dressings
  • Assists with the preparation of visual aids to enhance teaching
  • Assists in the planning, demonstration and distribution of appropriate literature as required
  • Assists in motivating the JCF populace to utilize the services
  • Manages incidents and ensures the continuing safety of self and others
  • Assesses casualties and finds out the nature and cause of injuries, prioritizing based upon medical needs
  • Arranges for further medical help or other emergency services on client's behalf
  • Provides appropriate first aid treatment 
  • Makes notes/observations of casualties and completes paperwork as required
  • Provides a handover report when further medical help arrives
  • Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting then in person or on the telephone and answering and/or referring their inquiries
  • Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments
  • Keeps clinics on schedule by notifying provider of patient's arrival; reviewing service delivery compared to schedule
  • Informs provider/patient of any service delays
  • Prepares health records in advance of patient's visit
  • Records and compiles statistical data and accurately files documents 
  • Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records
  • Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information
  • Updates patients' information in the Health Management Information System
  • Assists with data entry into the SPSS software for research purposes
  • Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions; maintaining the reception area
  • Assists with the MSB inventory of stocks in triage, screening and treatment areas
  • Assists with the scheduling of recalibration of clinical equipment such as blood machines, etc
  • Maintains the smooth operation of systems at the MSB by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes
  • Assists with mass programmes as directed by supervisors 
  • Participates in conferences, seminars, etc
  • Administers follow-up care as directed by nurse in charge
  • Collects specimens as directed by the Registered Nurse
  • Provides simple demonstration to support the teaching given 
  • Reports obvious health hazards in the environment

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

  • Certificate in Practical Nursing from a recognized institution
  • One (1) year experience working in a caring environment/role
Special Conditions Associated with the Job
  • Exposure to health hazards
Special Licensing or Certification necessary for the Job
  • NCTVET certified
  • Valid food handler's permit
