Pharmacist (Kingston, Jamaica) - Heart Institute of the Caribbean

 

The Pharmacist will be responsible for dispensing prescribed medication, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals. He/she will be responsible for ensuring that the operation of the Pharmacy is within the conform of the legal requirement and the organization’s guidelines and policies.

The Heart Institute of the Caribbean is seeking to identify experienced and qualified person to fill the role of: Pharmacist

Position Description: The Pharmacist will be responsible for dispensing prescribed medication, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals. He/she will be responsible for ensuring that the operation of the Pharmacy is within the conform of the legal requirement and the organization’s guidelines and policies.

Job Salary Range and Benefits
  • Salary - $1,600 (JMD) per hour
  • Vacation - 2 Weeks
  • Sick Leave - 10 days
  • $100,000 Bonus upfront for successfully completing recruitment and selection.
  • $150,000 (JMD) Bonus at 13th month of employment
Requirements:

The ideal candidate must possess:
  • A degree as required by the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica;
  • Certificate of Registration issued by the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica;
  • At least three (3) years working experience in a similar position
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Dispense drugs, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals both for outpatients and in patients;
  • Purchase and maintain approved stock of emergency and non-emergency drugs and antidotes;
  • Dispense and monitor narcotics consistent with MOH and client guidelines;
  • Ensure proper inventory management for all over the counter items;
  • Keep accurate and updated records of all monies collected and deposited daily;
  • Prepare and submit periodic reports on Pharmacy utilization and performance;
  • Work with other departments to ensure that contractual obligations to stakeholders are met;
  • Engage in patient’s education and participate in clinical rounds with the medical teams.

Job overview


The Senior Registered Nurse (SRN) position is a leadership role, reporting to the CEO. In this leadership role the SRN is responsible for holding staff accountable in delivering high quality safe patient care. The SRN inspires others to perform at the top of their scope and capabilities while encouraging accountability and facilitating opportunities for growth, learning, and performance improvement. This leader ensures that all staff strive to meet international accreditation standards and maintain a culture of safety and evidence-based practice. The SRN also partakes in budget management for HIC.

Key Responsibilities of Senior Nurse

HIC is interested in contracting for up to 20 hours per week with a senior nursing leader to provide at a minimum the following services:

  • Review current nursing policies and procedures and audit compliance to same among current nursing staff;
  • Meet on a regular basis with key administrative and medical staff representative to review identified performance issues and initiate and/or revised programs;
  • Provide at least one scheduled “shift” per week as opportunity to witness first hand issues and provide guidance on direct patient care issues for other nursing staff;
  • Assist HR with recruitment of needed staff;
  • Assist HR with scheduling of staff;
  • Perform an audit on medical management issues;
  • Schedule Nurses for duties
Qualifications and Experience

As a minimum, the post holder should have:
  • Undergraduate degree in nursing or another discipline (nursing diploma with the right combination of experience may be accepted in lieu of an undergraduate degree)
  • Active nursing licensure in Jamaica or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • 10+ years of work experience in the healthcare sector (including nursing and managerial experience)
  • Proven success in change management
  • Experience supervising and training nursing and allied health professional staff
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Track record in forming and maintaining senior level working relationships
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems
  • Self-driven, forward thinking, lifelong learner
  • English fluency
Preferred qualifications and experience include:
  • Advanced Degree in nursing or business such as MSN, PhD, DNP, MBA
  • 5+ years of hands-on nursing experience in cardiology (coronary care nursing, cardiac cath lab, telemetry etc.), acute care, or emergency services AND
  • 5+ years managerial experience in an ideally for-profit healthcare institution
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate upon hire and ability to maintain (The Heart Foundation of Jamaica, American Heart Association or equivalent)
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate upon hire and ability to maintain- (The Heart Foundation of Jamaica, American Heart Association or equivalent)
  • Prior experience as a nurse manager, nurse administrator, or DON
To be successful in this position, you will need to have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. In this nursing leadership role, you be the liaison between the non-medical clinical staff and senior management team. You will have the unique ability to integrate your clinical experience with your business acumen to inspire teams to move towards common goals. You will hold yourself and staff to high standards and play a pivotal role in strengthening HIC’s quality of care. As DON you will be expected to embody HIC’s mission, vision, and values and incorporate these into your professional activities.

Registered Nurses (Kingston, Manchester & St. Ann, JM) - Heart Institute of the Caribbean

DESCRIPTION

The Heart Institute of the Caribbean is seeking Registered Nurses who will provide in depth professional nursing care to patients based on nursing assessments, diagnoses and the patient's physical mental, spiritual, and emotional needs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Experience within Cardiac care is a plus, however, we are seeking nurses with experience in either ICU, A and E, Operating Theatre or Post patient care a plus.
  • Initiates and administers therapeutic interventions, such as medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, etc., under the parameters of the Ministry of Health and in adherence with the Policies and Procedures of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean. 
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures per nursing standards as well as assisting physicians with procedures. 
  • Directly and indirectly, through diagnostic devices, skillfully observes, evaluates and records the patients’ clinical conditions and critical events in the patient’s hospital stay, per nursing standards, through written or electronic documentation.  
  • Recognizes, identifies and interprets emergency situations and initiates appropriate action. 
  • Evaluates the response to the plan of care and achievement of individualized mutually agreed upon goals; and revises and updates the plan as necessary. 
  • Interprets plan of care to patient’s significant others, as well as conducting formal and informal teaching sessions on disease entities, therapeutic regimes and wellness concepts. 
  • Collaborates with other members of the health care team and directly and indirectly supervises the care rendered by CV techs and ancillary staff.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Maintains continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the Nursing Council of Jamaica.
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must be willing to learn new cardiac techniques
  • A Bachelor’s degree with postgraduate experience in a high volume facility is an advantage.
