JOB SUMMARY

In the dispensing, the Pharmacist will ensure that the patients are duly counseled. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

PHARMACY SALES & MANAGEMENT

  • Oversee employee relations and discipline administration.
  • Dispensing prescription medicines to the public using approved scripts from doctors
  • Ensuring that different treatments are compatible
  • Checking dosage and ensuring that medicines are correctly and safely supplied and labeled
  • Supervising the preparation of medication.
  • Keeping a register of controlled drugs for legal and stock control purposes
  • Liaise with doctors about prescriptions
  • Counseling and advising the public on the treatment of minor ailments

ROLES AND FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
  • Develop, implement, co-ordinate and manage a clinical pharmacy programme.
  • Manage medication therapy in direct patient care settings, whether practicing independently or in consultation/collaboration with other health care professionals.
  • Specify and maintain the proper techniques and special protection needed for storage and preservation of therapeutic agents.

  • Document clinical interventions and cost avoidance made to improve therapeutic outcomes and reduce hospital stay.
  • Maintain quality assurance systems to ensure the maintenance of standards and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Doctorate in Pharmacy Degree
  • Post Graduate Training in Clinical Pharmacy
  • Registered Pharmacist licensed by the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica
  • Registered Preceptor by the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica.
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management- an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) years working experience as a Pharmacist in a hospital pharmacy.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in Clinical Pharmacy.
SKILLS AND SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUES:
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of pharmacy software, Microsoft Word and Excel software.
  • In-depth and current knowledge on drugs, medical procedures and therapies, diagnosis and disease states as well as pharmacokinetics.
  • Knowledge of norms and standards related to the Ministry of Health and Wellness Drug Policy eg. VEN List and Dangerous Drugs.
  • Knowledge of World Health Organization’s good manufacturing practices.

The Western Regional Health Authority (a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness) is
currently seeking to employ a Regional Pharmacist for the Regional Office. Reporting to the Regional
Technical Director, the incumbent will be responsible for evaluating, researching, monitoring and
auditing the delivery and availability of pharmaceuticals in Secondary and Primary Care Institutions
within the Regional Health Authority in keeping with national and international standards. He/she will
also co-ordinate the Pharmacy Internship and other relevant Trainee Programmes and provide technical
guidance. The incumbent will also be expected to:

CORE FUNCTIONS:
  • Collaborate with the Director, Pharmacy Services and Operations and the Regional Technical Director to ensure adequate delivery and availability of pharmaceuticals to facilities operated by Western Regional Health Authority
  • Participate in Regional Performance Reviews to assess the technical achievements of the Region
  • Participate in the preparation of the budgetary allocation for pharmaceuticals in the Region
  • Provide technical advice to inform the Region’s activities on matters pertaining to provision of pharmaceuticals
  • Represent the Region at local, regional and international events on matters related to Pharmacy and to health in general
  • Prepare and submit performance and other reports within agreed timeframes

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduate from an accredited institution with a Bachelor of Pharmacy
  • Registration with the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica
  • Five years or more experience in a Supervisory position
  • Training in Public Service Management/Health Services Management would be an asset
  • Training in Clinical Pharmacy would also be an asset
  • Certification/ Training/exposure in Quality Assurance and Drug Regulation would be an asset

Chief Pharmacist (Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland) - Fontana Pharmacy

 Reports to: Pharmacy Manager

Summary:

We need a highly qualified, experienced pharmacist to manage our pharmacy department. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of pharmacy operations, regulations, and best practices. The candidate will also be able to provide leadership and direction to the pharmacy staff and work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the pharmacy department
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of pharmacy staff
  • Ensure the safety and security of all pharmacy operations
  • Manage Pharmacy KPIs
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure the smooth flow of pharmacy services
  • Provide medication counseling to patients and healthcare providers
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest pharmaceutical developments
  • Prepare monthly Reports on the Department's performance

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacy
