Assistant Occupational Health Nurse
Job Summary
The successful candidate is responsible for planning, organizing, recommending and implementing effective health service programmes for all employees and for ensuring the provision of basic diagnostic and clinical services.
The position will also be responsible for participating in planning and implementing health education programmes designed to improve efficiency and reduce absenteeism.
The successful candidate must be flexible and able to work in a 24 hour shift system.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Be a certified Registered Nurse
- BLS certified
- Have a minimum of three (3) years medical-surgical nursing experience
- Experience in Occupational Health and Safety is an asset
Duties and Experience:
- Assists with the development and implementation of health policies
- Develops employee programs, such as health education, accident prevention, alcohol abuse and family planning and assist in classroom presentations
- Interprets plant and departmental health policies and regulations to employees
- Encourages employees to participate in programmes designed to promote healthy lifestyles
- Directs patients care including first aid treatment in the case of an accident or illness including follow-ups and referral
- Coordinates occupational health tests for injured and for annual and bi-annual company medicals
- Conducts onsite tests e.g. blood pressure checks, blood sugar checks
- Maintains medical stocks, employee and on-the-job injury records
- Assists employees in taking advantage of the Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) by arranging services such as counseling and nutritional guidance
- Observes and assesses the work environment for potential dangers and hazards

- Proficient in the use of medical instruments and equipment
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent observational skills
- Compassionate, patient and confidential in emergency situations
- Ability to maintain composure and work effectively within groups
- Ability to diagnose, and make prompt decisions in emergencies
- Proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
