Registered Nurses (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF)

The Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force welcomes applications from suitably qualified applicants to fill the vacant positions of three (3) Registered Nurses (HPC/RN1).

Job Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Medical Doctor the incumbent is responsible for providing non-judgmental and compassionate nursing services to survivors of sexual assault at CISOCA in addition to making referrals for appropriate medical and psychological care fir the patients as well as ensuring the availability of adequate medical supplies.

Qualification and Experience:
  • BSc degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing institution
  • At least three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities
Technical/Professional Responsibilities:
  • Conducts vital and appropriate testing of all clients in order to assess and treat the patients accurately;
  • Conducts duties related to forensic examinations and specimen management;
  • Prepares and sanitizes the examination suite(s) before and after use;
  • Ensures that examination rooms are restocked with medical supplies and requisitions done as needed;
  • Records management for medical office;
  • Support of medical staff and office;
  • Monitors the disposal of all hazardous materials;
  • Maintains liaisons with external stakeholders.

Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Manages procurements and stock of medical supplies and sundries;
  • Rosters of nursing staff to provide coverage for all attending physicians;
  • Liaises with the investigators to ensure preparedness for court appearances/testimony;
  • Medical Office administration and documentation;
  • Performs quality assurance functions to include maintenance of chain of evidence, appropriateness of documentation;
  • Participates in annual performance appraisal reviews;
  • Assists in the development of training programmes and procedures for new nursing staff;
  • Participates in public education and sensitization sessions.
Other Responsibilities
Performs other related functions assigned from time to time by Medical Officer.
Special conditions associated with job performance:
  • Required to work as rostered to include extended hours, weekend and public holidays;
  • Sensitive and emotional circumstances.
Performance standards:
  • Maintains chain of custody for each sexual assault examination and adheres to evidence protocols;
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patients examination results;
  • Provides chaperones assistance during examinations of violated victims;
  • Provides patient care in accordance with established medical protocols and internal standard operating procedures;
  • Professionalism displayed through mannerism, attire and response to stressful situations;
  • Prompt procurement of all medical supplies to avert supply crisis;
  • Flexibility to accept changes in areas of responsibility;
  • Patients records are updated accurately and timely;
  • Identifies errors and ensures correction of such, promptly and effectively.
Salary
Ranges from $1,102,637 - $1,310,689 per annum and any allowances attached to the post.

Nurse 2 (HPC/RN 1) - Kingston, Jamaica - Min. of Health & Wellness

JOB PURPOSE

Under the general director of the Nurse Manager of the Donor Room the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the general management of the donor before, during and after the donation process as well as counsel and refer for further management.

KEY OUTPUTS
  • Exhibiting excellent customer service towards donors.
  • Perform safe venepuncture procedures
  • Counsel and prefer seropositive donors
  • Perform Stock Inventory
  • Training internally and externally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Management:
  • Ensure safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Maintains medical and non-medical supplies by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Documents donor care services on appropriate document.
  • Assign and supervise staff in the Donor Room and for mobile session.
  • Assist in the supervision of Enrolled Assistants Nurses, Technical Assistant and Ancillary staff.
  • Assist in training of Nursing and Phlebotomy Students.

Technical
  1. Select suitable donors by taking careful medical history.
  2. Carry out limited physical examinations of donors which include weight, temperature, pulse rate and general physical activity.
  3. Education of donors post phlebotomy.
  4. Refer to Medical Officers donors who need further management for any adverse reaction during or following phlebotomy.
  5. Perform phlebotomy/venepuncture.
  6. Counsel Donors on seropositive markers (HIV, Hepatitis B and C, Syphillis, HTLV-I and II) and refer for follow up care.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Enrolled Assistant Nurse - HTAC/EAN (Kingston, Jamaica) - Ministry of Health & Wellness

JOB PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the incumbent is responsible to ensure blood donors are appropriately manage to assure successful donation of blood, with no damage to donor health and recipient protection from transmission of diseases or drugs present in blood.

KEY OUTPUTS

  • Appropriate samples per donation procured
  • Blood appropriately stored
  • Donor care and counseling successfully carried out
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA
  • Assists in selection of suitable donor by taking careful medical history
  • Assists in carrying out limited physical examination of donor, including temperature, pulse rate, weight, blood pressure observation of skin and general physical fitness
  • Carries out phlebotomy of donors either at fixed sites or on mobile operation
  • Assure general nursing care of donors during and after phlebotomy
  • Perform related function as required for e.g. securing suitable samples, stripping blood bags

Other Responsibilities
Perform other job related functions so assigned or as necessary to maintain the performance standards of the facility

  • No contamination
  • Of correct volume

  • Donor is suitably rested and re-hydrated after donation

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
  • Sound knowledge of nursing care
  • Training/ certification in phlebotomy of blood donors

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Certification as an Enrolled Assistant Nurse from a recognized institution plus one (1) year experience
  • 4 Subjects in CXC or GCE including English Language, Biology and any other subjects
  • Certification in Phlebotomy
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral written English
  • The candidate should have completed an approved assistant nursing and educational programme
  • Be registered with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
