Under the direction of the Surveillance Officer, the Data Entry Officer (MIS/IT 2) will maintain surveillance databases. This officer will work to ensure that surveillance data is cleaned, stored and retrieved as required


KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
  • Collates and cleans incoming surveillance data
  • Logs receipt incoming surveillance data, as needed
  • Enters surveillance data into relevant database
  • Updates surveillance data as new data are received
  • Maintains logs and paper and electronic files/databases
  • Participates in training of staff at all levels in data management tools and processes

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Four (4) CSEC subject (General Proficiency Grade 1-3) including English Language and a numeric subject
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel is an asset

HIV/STI Information Officer (Kingston, Jamaica) - Ministry of Health & Wellness

 

HIV/STI Information Officer (MIS/IT 4) (Band 7) (Vacant)
(Salary: $3,501,526.00 per annum)

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Programme Coordinator, the HIV/STI Information Officer will be responsible for maintaining and upgrading monitoring and evaluation databases that will efficiently and effectively track HIV (including EMTCT and PrEP), STIs and TB.

KEY OUTPUTS

  • HIV/STI/TB management information systems, user manuals and other documents reviewed.
  • Liaise with and guide firms/consultants undertaking software modifications.
  • Databases for project operations designed and maintained.
  • Software modifications monitored.
  • Systems are tested, refined and fully implemented.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
Technical Responsibilities
  • Assists in the maintenance and upgrading of databases for HIV (including PrEP and EMTCT), STI and TB for monitoring and evaluating the National HIV/STI/TB programme at national, regional and parish levels.
  • Liaises with the health and management information systems of the Ministry of Health & Wellness and other related agencies.
  • Defines the feasibility to incorporate new information requirements into existing MIS of the HIV/STI/TB programme.
  • Propose terms of reference for major modifications of software to accommodate new information requirements for all databases.
  • Participate in the analysis of the feasibility to upgrade hardware and software according to the requirements for information systems.
  • Identify data/reporting needs for monitoring and evaluation activities.
  • Train and support end users in data entry, data manipulation and retrieval of reports from databases.
  • Provide routine technical support for all databases.
  • Prepare a data management implementation plan for the relevant funding entities.
  • Assist regions, parishes and sites with matters related to the databases that are managed by the HIV/STI/TB Unit.
  • Liaise with key developers to trouble shoot and rectify back end technical matters affecting the functionality of the database.
  • Provide technical support and assist with the management of data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI) for programme monitoring.
  • The incumbent may, from time to time, be assigned duties not specifically outlined within the job description but are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from a person occupying this position.

JOB PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Administrator, the incumbent is responsible for imputing data in the Laboratory Information System (DISA) and the maintenance of an effective collating of patients medical reports on a daily basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
  • Receive incoming calls to the department and deal with them appropriately, through broad knowledge of the organization’s operations
  • Ensures that the inventory log is maintained
  • Entering information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Package laboratory reports and dispatches to patients, hospitals and health centres island wide
  • Attends to client’s queries
  • Affix barcode to correct requisition forms

TECHNICAL
  • Working knowledge of computer applications
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

JOB PURPOSE

Under the general supervision of the Medical Technologist, the incumbent performs per-examination duties in the laboratory in the assistance to meet laboratory’s goals and objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
  • Swab work in area in preparation for the day’s work
  • Receives, sort, logs and dispatches specimen received from the Specimen Area and referral institutions
  • Assist in maintaining documentation of sample to be discarded
  • Assist with maintenance of statistical records and quality documents for the department
  • Logging of room and refrigerator temperatures, and assisting with maintaining of equipment maintenance logs

Job Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the hygienic, nutritional, elimination, psychological and psychosocial needs of the patient and share the responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of the environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A graduate of a recognized School of Nursing

Specific Knowledge and Skills Required:

JOB PURPOSE

Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager of the Donor Room the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the general management of the donor before, during and after the donation process as well as counsel and refer for further management.

Key responsibility areas

Management/Administrative

  • Refer to Medical Officers donors who need further management for any adverse reaction during or following phlebotomy.
  • Perform phlebotomy/venepuncture.
  • Counsel Donors on seropositive markers (HIV, Hepatitis B and C, Syphillis, HTLV-I & II) and refer for follow up care

JOB PURPOSE

Under the General supervision of the Administrator, the Records Clerk is required to locate and retrieve files and ensure that correspondence are accurately filed and files are maintained to facilitate easy access of information as well as the scheduling of patients for surgery and post-operative evaluations for the ophthalmology centre.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
  • Ensure that files requested are dispatched and files are re-shelved

Physical Activity Specialists - Ministry of Health & Wellness


 Physical Activity Specialists – 4 positions [CONTRACT]

JOB PURPOSE

One (1) Physical Activity Specialist will be assigned to each Regional Health Authority and will function under the supervision of the Regional Health Promotion Officer and will be tasked with the advancement and promotion of population wide physical activity in schools, workplaces and communities. This purpose will be achieved through the development of resource materials for training; educational materials in written, audio and audio visual format for targeted populations; capacity building workshops and conducting physical activity sessions, in accordance with established policies and procedures. 


The physical activity experts will work closely with the National Physical Activity Focal Point to develop programmes that will advance the promotion of population wide physical activity.

KEY OUTPUTS

  • To coordinate the Physical Activity Programme in school, community and workplace
  • To build the capacity of key stakeholders in schools, communities and workplaces
  • To develop resource materials/tools for targeted population
  • To facilitate requests from school, community and workplace for physical activity interventions, where possible and approved
  • To assist in providing technical guidance to the Health Education Team

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

The Physical Activity Specialist will be expected to:

  • Coordinate the Physical Activity Programme in schools, communities and workplaces across the region; 
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop and implement physical activity programmes in at least seven (7) schools, seven (7) workplaces and six (6) communities;
  • Coordinate the implementation of National Physical Activity Days;
  • Coordinate at least (12) capacity building sessions for selected stakeholders in schools, communities and workplaces;
  • Identify resource needs as it relates to Information Education Communication (IEC) materials as well as equipment to support programmes;
  • Develop additional resource materials that will aid the promotion of increased participation in physical activity;
  • Provide technical guidance to the Health Education Team across the parishes in the Region;
  • Partner with key stakeholders to aid in the promotion of increased physical activity in schools, workplaces and community setting; 
  • Facilitate approved requests from schools, workplaces and community to do physical activity interventions;
  • Formulate strategies that motivate individuals to increase participation in physical activity;
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports; and

  • Develop a monitoring and evaluation system for the physical activity programm
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
  • The specific deliverables of the Physical Activity Specialist include the following:
  • Established mechanism of working closely with key stakeholders and the Health Promotion and Education Team on Physical Activity deliverables for schools, workplaces and communities
  • Consultations with key stakeholders in school, workplace and community
  • Implementation of twenty (20) physical activity programmes
  • Twelve (12) capacity building workshops conducted for key stakeholders in schools, workplaces and communities
  • Resource materials and equipment provided for target population
  • Technical guidance provided to the Health Education Teams across parishes in the Regional Health Authority
  • Monthly reports submitted
  • Reports on the specific physical activity programmes submitted
  • Monitoring and evaluation system to monitor physical activity programme

SPECIAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB

  • The incumbent will be required to travel island-wide.

APPROVED EMOLUMENTS

  • Basic Salary  – $1,400,964.00 p.a.
  • Travelling Allowance – $   894,924.00 p.a. (with motor vehicle)
  • Travelling Allowance – $   362,472.00 p.a. (without motor vehicle)

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor Degree from a recognized tertiary institution offering preparation in exercise science and a minimum of four (4) years working experience in the area of exercise science; or
  • A Diploma in exercise science and a minimum of five (5) years working experience in the area with knowledge of research and planning; and
  • Knowledge of health related (Non-Communicable Disease) issues
