An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, highly motivated, suitably qualified and experienced Staff Nurse to join the Medical team at Jamalco.

Under the direction of the Occupational Health Administrator and Medical Doctor, this position is accountable for for performing the following:

  • Nursing duties and other medical functions as may be required from time to time through the incumbent's direct supervision
  • Daily medical activities including performing pre-employment and periodic physical examinations, monitoring health hazards and medical surveillances
  • Preparing reports of activities within the department, as well as handling emergencies as they relate to the industry
  • Supervision of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)
  • Coordinating Plant Education Activities and Wellness program

Qualification and Experience:
To be considered the incumbent must have:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Current Registration with Nursing Council of Jamaica
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience working in an Emergency Unit

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness,
with responsibility for the management and delivery of Public Health Services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary, and Portland invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of
Registered Nurse for the St. Ann and St. Mary Health Departments.

Reporting to the Public Health Nurse, the incumbent is responsible for direct and indirect nursing
care and treatment of patients/clients at the hospital with exception of the delivery of babies.

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:
  • BSc. In General Nursing from an accredited Institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Assess, diagnose, classify, plans, implements, evaluates a nursing care plan for the individual
  • patient/client using all relevant data.
  • Interprets and administers prescriptions, treatments, and monitors the patient’s action to determine
  • the best possible outcomes.
  • Acts promptly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Performs nursing procedures that are appropriate to the needs, age and acuity level of the patient
  • Documents information promptly, clearly and completely and relates as necessary to the relevant
  • persons.
  • Ensures proper collection, identification, storage and safe transportation of specimens to the
  • laboratory with appropriate requisition forms.
  • Participate in quality assurance programmes of unit - Ensure environmental safety of patient care
  • unit and sees that appropriate health and safety measures are in place.
  • Implements discharge/care plan including referral to appropriate agencies.
  • Supervises auxiliary and support staff, assists in the cost-effective usage of supplies and equipment.
  • Assumes in charge/administrative responsibility when delegated, especially afternoon and night duty.
  • Acts as liaison between patient/client relative and the physician in interpreting and conveying
  • information.
  • Teaches patient/client and family health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance
  • Participates in the clinical teaching and evaluation of nursing students, auxiliaries and other personnel
  • Participates in ward rounds, patient/client reports and staff conferences.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
  • Salary Scale: $2,998,418 – $3,564,176 per annum along with any other allowance(s) attached to the post.

Orderly (HSC/HS 3) for the Port Maria Hospital.

Summary:
Under the general direction of the Hospital Administrator, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision of
the portering staff.

Requirements:
  • Grade 9 Primary Education
  • NCTVET certificate in Housekeeping (Level 2-3)
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management
  • A minimum of one (1) year work experience in a similar position would be an asset.

Required Skills and Specialized Techniques
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to express ideas in writing and orally.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills Ability to work as part of a team to foster a cordial and equitable working environment for subordinates.

  • Monitors and ensures that each Porter signs/clocks in and out his/her own time card/attendance register.

  • Prepares vacation leave rosters for subordinates and makes recommendations to the Hospital Administrator in relation to coverage and overtime schedules.
  • Ensure that claims submitted are thoroughly checked and accurate.
  • Ensure that Performance Evaluations for subordinates are competed and submitted to the Hospital
  • Administrator within stipulated timeframes.
  • Makes recommendations to the Hospital Administrator in relation to disciplinary actions, training and
  • the overall enhancement of the staff supervised.
  • Prepares and submits all requisite reports as required by the Hospital Administrator within the stipulated timeframes.
REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
Salary Scale: $1,232,631 – 1,465,210 per annum.
