Hospital Attendant (St. Mary, Jamaica) - Port Maria Hospital (NERHA)

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking strong, dynamic, and proactive individuals to fill the position of Hospital Attendant (Housekeeping) (HSC/HS 1) at the Port Maria Hospital.

Summary:
Under the general direction of the Supervisory Hospital Attendant/Hospital Administrator, the Hospital
Attendant ensures clean and safe environment for patients and staff through the infection control policy and
procedures

Required Qualification & Experience:
  • Completed school to grade 9 level
  • Valid food handler’s permit
  • Two (2) years working independently in a housekeeping role.

Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of excellent customer service delivery
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures for using specialized chemicals
  • Working Knowledge of Infection Control
  • Knowledge of organizing and prioritizing work
  • Working Knowledge of Health Hazards
Key responsibilities will include but not limited:
  • Check and receive ward on each shift
  • Ensure cleaning agents are available in your assigned area
  • Mop and sanitize the floor.
  • Polish and shine required areas
  • Clean general areas
  • Clean and monitor lavatories
  • Assist with sterilizing soiled linens
  • Washing and ironing of bed linens, pantry linens and other linens for facility on a daily basis
  • Collect linens from laundry
  • Empty of garbage bins and properly disposing of garbage
  • Collect cleaning materials/ supplies for the units
  • Check inventory and store utensils appropriate
REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
  • Salary Scale: $ 990,843 - 1,177,801 per annum

Customer Care Officer (Portland, Jamaica) - NERHA

Summary:
Reporting to the Parish Administrator, the incumbent is responsible to assist the general public in all aspects of their interaction with the Organization with the objective of achieving the mandate of the organization. The incumbent will also manage customer inquiries, complaints and interact with customers to
provide and process information.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Diploma in Management Studies, Public Administration, Personnel Management, Business Administration
  • At least two (2) years in Customer Service or performing related functions
Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Knowledge of the MDA’s Policies & Procedures
  • Knowledge of GOJ Customer Service Policies & Procedures Switch Board Operating Skills
  • Proficiency in relevant Software Applications
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Maintains portfolio and be knowledgeable of the organization products and services

Gardener/Groundsman (St. Mary & Portland, Jamaica) - NERHA

 

The North-East Regional Health Authority (NERHA), a statutory body under the Ministry of Health and Wellness, with responsibility for the management and delivery of Public Health Services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary, and Portland invites applications from suitable qualified persons to fill the position of GARDENER/GROUNDSMAN (LMO/TS 1) at the Port Maria Hospital and Portland Health Department.

The ideal candidate must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • Primary School Level of education.
  • A minimum of six (6) months in a similar capacity.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND SPECIALISED TECHNIQUES
  • Good and effective working relations exist with other staff members.
  • Willingness and hardworking.
  • Work performed to the highest possible standard.
  • Pleasant and even-tempered.
  • Ability to safely operate trimmers, mowers and other equipment used in maintaining the grounds.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Knowledge of horticulture/agriculture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
  • Establishing and maintaining attractive, healthy lawns, gardens and grounds.
  • Mowing, edging, trimming, fertilizing/mulching on a regular basis.
  • Recognizing the need for new vegetation, transplanting and watering plants.
  • Attending to the proper upkeep of the parking area, fences and borders.
  • Ensuring that all tools are kept clean and functional.
  • Safely storing tools in the area provided when not in use.
  • Removing garbage from collection receptacles and deposit in house provided for removal by garbage collectors. Note well, infectious waste safely stored for the incinerator.
  • Performing high dusting as required by supervisor or designate.
  • Keeping windows clean.
  • Regularly cleaning outside drains and grease traps.
  • Performing any other duties as required by the Maintenance Supervisor.
REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM: Salary Scale: $857,012 – $1,152,632 per annum.

Enrolled Assistant Nurses (St. Ann & St. Mary, Jamaica) - NERHA

 

The North-East Regional Health Authority (NERHA), a statutory body under the Ministry of Health with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, invites applications from suitably qualified persons with strong team building skills to fill the position of ENROLLED ASSISTANT NURSE - (HTAC/EAN 1) at the St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital and Port Maria Hospital. Reporting to the Director, Nursing Services the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the administration of nursing services within the hospital.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • A graduate of a recognized School of Nursing.
  • Enrolled with the Nursing Council of Jamaica.
Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of current legislation affecting the practice of Nursing in Jamaica
  • Knowledge of the Staff Orders for the Public Service.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with the admission, discharge and transfer of patients
  • Assisting in explaining hospital rules and routines to patients
  • Sharing responsibility for a safe and comfortable environment for the patients
  • Assisting patients in moving and turning, getting in and out of bed, positioning and walking as needed
  • Assisting with the inter-facility transportation of patients
  • Maintaining personal hygiene of the patient according to the needs and condition; that is bathing, cutting nails, combing hair, oral hygiene
  • Assisting with the preparation of patient’s meals and in the feeding of patients
  • Assisting with the patient in dressing and undressing
  • Giving, removing and checking bed pans and urinals
  • Changing linen and making beds
  • Administering alcohol or tepid sponges to reduce body temperature
  • Collecting specimens of urine, faeces, sputum and vomitus
  • Observing temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressures of patients
  • Measuring heights and weights
  • Observing symptoms, reactions, attitudes and changes in the patient’s condition; and report to the Registered Nurse
  • Preparing patients for and assisting doctors and nurses in examination, treatment and diagnostic tests
  • Sharing responsibility for the control of infection
  • Preparing instruments and equipment for storage and sterilization
  • Sterilizing instruments and equipment
  • Sharing responsibility for keeping the patient’s unit clean and tidy
  • Assist in receiving, checking and storing supplies
  • Perform simple dressings
  • Administering medications excluding dangerous drugs as ordered e.g., orally, rectally or by injection-subcutaneous and intramuscular and carrying out other treatments as assigned
  • Co-operating with other members of staff and accepting guidance and corrections

Registered Nurse (St. Ann & St. Mary, Jamaica) - North-East Regional Health Authority

REGISTERED NURSE – HPC/ RN 1



The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness,
with responsibility for the management and delivery of Public Health Services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary, and Portland invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of
Registered Nurse for the St. Ann and St. Mary Health Departments.

Reporting to the Public Health Nurse, the incumbent is responsible for direct and indirect nursing
care and treatment of patients/clients at the hospital with exception of the delivery of babies.

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:
  • BSc. In General Nursing from an accredited Institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Assess, diagnose, classify, plans, implements, evaluates a nursing care plan for the individual
  • patient/client using all relevant data.
  • Interprets and administers prescriptions, treatments, and monitors the patient’s action to determine
  • the best possible outcomes.
  • Acts promptly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Performs nursing procedures that are appropriate to the needs, age and acuity level of the patient
  • Documents information promptly, clearly and completely and relates as necessary to the relevant
  • persons.
  • Ensures proper collection, identification, storage and safe transportation of specimens to the
  • laboratory with appropriate requisition forms.
  • Participate in quality assurance programmes of unit - Ensure environmental safety of patient care
  • unit and sees that appropriate health and safety measures are in place.
  • Implements discharge/care plan including referral to appropriate agencies.
  • Supervises auxiliary and support staff, assists in the cost-effective usage of supplies and equipment.
  • Assumes in charge/administrative responsibility when delegated, especially afternoon and night duty.
  • Acts as liaison between patient/client relative and the physician in interpreting and conveying
  • information.
  • Teaches patient/client and family health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance
  • Participates in the clinical teaching and evaluation of nursing students, auxiliaries and other personnel
  • Participates in ward rounds, patient/client reports and staff conferences.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
  • Salary Scale: $2,998,418 – $3,564,176 per annum along with any other allowance(s) attached to the post.
