Registered Midwife (St. Mary, St. Ann & Portland - Jamaica) - NERHA

Reporting to the Ward/Nurse Manager the incumbent gives advanced level of care to patients who need midwifery care before, during and after birth of a baby.

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:
  • B.Sc in Midwifery OR
  • B. Sc in Nursing with a Certificate/Diploma in Midwifery from an accredited institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Identifies nursing needs of each patient and make care plan
  • Observes, reports, records signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors and progress of the patient and intervened appropriately
  • Assigns the staff members and delegated duties according to skill and competence
  • Executes therapeutic orders intelligently and appropriately
  • Participates in ward conferences
  • Interviews and Counsels patients and relatives as needs indicated
  • Supervises and participates in antenatal and postnatal care and deliveries
  • Liaises with medical, paramedical and the primary care personnel in promoting linkages and discharge planning
  • Assumes responsibility for ordering and storage of Ward stocks, dangerous drugs and carried out handing over procedure
  • Maintains physical safety and emotional support for patients

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, invites applications from suitably qualified persons with strong team building skills to fill the position of Enrolled Assistant Nurse for the Portland Health Department. Reporting to the Senior Public Health Nurse the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the administration of nursing services within the health department.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma in Enrolled Assistant Nursing from a recognized learning institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica as an Enrolled Assistant Nurse
  • Certification in Supervisory Management
  • At least three (3) years’ experience as an Enrolled Assistant Nurse 1.

Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of current legislation affecting the practice of Nursing in Jamaica

Patient Care Assistant (St. Ann, Jamaica) - St. Ann's Bay Regional Hospital

with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking a strong, dynamic, and proactive individual to fill the position of Patient Care Assistant at the St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital.

Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing Services, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision of housekeeping personnel in all departments; coordinating activities to ensure areas are properly cleaned in a timely manner; preparing rosters, assigning duties, inspecting work, investigating complaints regarding housekeeping services, and taking corrective action(s).

Requirements:
  • Completed Secondary School Education;
  • Certificate/Diploma in Practical Nursing or its equivalent from an accredited tertiary institution;
  • Training in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR);
  • Three (3) years’ experience performing similar duties.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Caring of patients’ units
  • Feeding helpless patients
  • Collecting routine urine specimen
  • Collecting stool specimen and any other specimen
  • Accompanying patients for procedures

Reporting to the Regional Epidemiologist the incumbent is responsible for the compilation, processing and

Qualifications:
  • Minimum five (5) subjects at CXC/GCE O' Level inclusive of English Language and Mathematics.

TREATMENT CARE AND SUPPORT OFFICER (HPC/ALH 1) | St. Ann & Portland, Jamaica | NERHA

Summary:
Reporting to the Medical Officer (Health), the incumbent will be required to assist in the development and
implementation of all HIV/STI Prevention, Treatment Care and Support activities within the assigned treatment sites.
Requirements:
  • BSc. in Health Sciences / Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work
  • Basic HIV/AIDS knowledge and experience managing HIV/AIDS patients would be an asset.
  • Have at least three (3) years field experience in HIV or health programme.

Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborating with technical staff and field officers in the collection, collation, and analysis of date from treatment sites, testing sites and HIV databases.
  • Attend monthly/quarterly/annual meetings/conferences/workshops and special sessions as required by the Parish/Regional/National HIV/STI Tb Programme.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual ad hoc reports and submit to the MO(H), Regional HIV/STI/Tb
  • Coordinator, Regional Treatment, Care and Support Officer, Regional Behaviour Change Communication
  • Officer and Regional Liaison Officer.
  • Review the cascade for the treatment site and have monthly meetings with treatment site staff and MO (H) to update and develop activities to improve the cascade.
  • Provide oversight and feedback on issues of infrastructure, information technology (IT) and other assets which impact service delivery.

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:

  • Diploma or Associate degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from a recognized tertiary institution. Or
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from a recognized tertiary institution (Without approved Dietetics/Nutrition Internship or Supervised Practice Program).
  • Two (2) years working experiences
Specific Knowledge & Skills Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, principles, and applications of nutrition assessment and diet counselling
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, principles, and approaches of nutrition and health education.
  • Knowledge of the development of health education materials taking into consideration target audience, age, readership and literacy levels.

  • Managing the supplementary feeding and Replacement feeding programmes;
  • Providing basic in-service training for health care staff;
  • Providing nutrition education to clinic and public populations; and
  • Advising Government & other Agencies on appropriate nutrition programmes

Summary:

Required Qualification & Experience:

  • Completed school to grade 9 level

Health Records Clerk (St. Mary, Jamaica) - St. Mary Health Department (NERHA)

 The North East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health, with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary, and Portland, is seeking to fill the position of Health Records Clerk at the St. Mary Health Department. The incumbent will be responsible for to compile, process and maintain the health records in a manner consistent with medical administrative, ethical, legal and regulatory requirements of the health care facility.

Qualification and Experience will include:
  • Five (5) CXC/GCE subjects at the ordinary level (O’level) are required including English Language, Mathematics and Biology (preferably Human and Social Biology).
  • Diploma in Computer applications inclusive of word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ working experience.

Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Sound knowledge of policies and practices involved in health records science
  • Health Records Service Manual
  • Medical Records Manual –: Guide for Developing Countries
  • Jamaica Medical Records Code of Ethics

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Protect the security of the health records, ensuring that confidentiality is maintained

  • Retrieve all health records for appointment

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:
  • Diploma or Associate degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from a recognized tertiary institution. Or
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics/Nutrition from a recognized tertiary institution (Without approved Dietetics/Nutrition Internship or Supervised Practice Program).
  • Two (2) years working experiences

Specific Knowledge & Skills Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, principles, and applications of nutrition assessment and diet counselling
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, principles, and approaches of nutrition and health education.
  • Knowledge of the development of health education materials taking into consideration target audience, age, readership and literacy levels.

Reporting to the Director, Nursing Services the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the administration of nursing services within the hospital.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma in Enrolled Assistant Nursing from a recognized learning institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica as an Enrolled Assistant Nurse

Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of current legislation affecting the practice of Nursing in Jamaica

Registered Midwife 2 (Portland, Jamaica) - Portland Health Department (NERHA)

REGISTERED MIDWIFE – HPC/MW 2 for the Portland Health Department.

Reporting to the Public Health Nurse/Supervisory Midwife, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision
and co-ordination of child care activities; providing nursing care in the Maternal, Child Health and Family
Planning services in accordance with the objectives and policies of the programme as set out in the Maternal
and Child Health Care Plan for Jamaica.
The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:

  • Certificate/Diploma in Midwifery from an accredited institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in secondary care facility

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Participating in identifying special needs in communities in relation to Maternal and Child Health.
  • Preparing regular schedules for Antenatal/ Postnatal/ Child Welfare visits.

  • Responsibility for notification of live/still births, neo-natal and maternal deaths, puerperal infection and other infectious diseases
