CHIEF ORDERLY (HSC/HS3) - MAY PEN HOSPITAL
(Salary range $1,332,574– $1,584,011 per annum and any allowance(s) attached to the post.)

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for
supervising the work activities of the Hospital Attendants, to ensure safety and protection of clients, clean
environment and adequate service delivery

Qualification and Experience
  • School Leaving Certificate (Secondary Education) with on the job training in Housekeeping, Portering and Janitorial Systems
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management would be an asset
  • English Language in GCE O’Level/CXC at the General Proficiency level would be an asset
  • At least one (1) year experience in a supervisory position

Specific Knowledge/Skills Required:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral formats
  • Good leadership/ supervisory skills
  • Knowledge of the Infection Control Policies and Procedures
  • Knowledge of the Health and Safety Practices
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures well
  • Good time management, judgment and decision making skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
  • Good human relation skills
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Supervising and monitoring work activities of all Attendants to ensure patients/clients are lifted/transported from one area to another in a safe manner
  • Planning and preparing daily and fortnightly work schedule for regular Attendants to ensure adequate service for all areas of the hospital
  • Ensuring proper use and safety of equipment to be utilized for the execution of duties
  • Maintaining the compound in a clean, orderly and pleasant environment.
  • Inspecting hospital premises to ensure trash and garbage disposal meet safety, health and sanitation regulations
  • Reporting any problems that may affect the smooth flow of work
  • Assisting with the morgue (cleans, delivers and receives bodies)

Job Summary


The incumbent will be responsible for working cooperatively with families in the community in order to identify health related problems and bring them to health professionals. He/she is directly responsible to the Community Nurse and is expected to work co-operatively with all members of the health team.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Two (2) ‘O’ Level/CXC subjects; English Language compulsory
  • HEART NSTA/Trust certification in Community Health Aide/ Healthcare Assistant
  • Public Health and/or service industry experience would be an asset

Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
  • Knowledge of community health
  • Practical experience of giving nursing care
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Confidentiality and integrity
  • Excellent customer service skills
Key Responsibilities will include:
  • Teaching simple health facts to the people of the community he/she serves.
  • Encouraging and advise parents and guardians to have their children completely immunized against infectious diseases.
  • Encouraging the regular attendance of infants to the Child Welfare Clinic from an early age.
  • Giving simple nursing care to those individuals where this type of care is indicated e.g. bed baths.
  • Assisting the Community Nurses and District Midwives in ensuring that all expectant mothers in the area receive adequate pre-natal and post-natal care.
  • Participating in information gathering or data collection activities.
  • Recording feedback on health problems and related interventions conducted in the community.
  • Motivating and referring clients to health facilities for investigation and/or treatment.
  • Assisting in organizing and participating in interventions initiated by the health department.

Registered Nurse (Kingston, Jamaica) - National Health Fund

ROLE AND FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

Under the general direction of the Manager, Health Promotion and Public Relations, the Registered Nurse shall have responsibility for providing screening services to patients at the community days, health fairs and other events planned by the National Health Fund.

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate the screening programme of the Fund
  • Ensure adequate preparations are made for the screening of patients
  • Counsel “patients” at outreach events
  • Make referrals for patients with abnormal results
  • Liaise with Physicians re pending ECG’s and then do follow up and referral for those with abnormal results
  • Make preparation for mailing pending ECG results
  • Do follow up with persons showing abnormal results
  • Analysis of data and generate reports
  • Ensure that the instruments used for measurement are regularly calibrated
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Manager, Health Promotions and Public Relations

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Registered Nurse licensed by the Nursing Council of Jamaica
  • Graduate from an accredited Nurses’ Training Programme
  • At least two (2) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Any equivalent combination of qualification and experience
