Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Medical Social Worker the incumbent will be responsible in conducting a
comprehensive social investigations in order to identify the social, emotional and economic factors related to the patients and intervene where appropriate.
Requirements:

  • BSc. in Social Work or Psychology
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the scope and methods of social work
  • Sound knowledge of the environment and community resources
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in similar position
  • Excellent time management and communication skills

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting educational talks in school and children’s homes in the Region
  • Administering counseling to patients who seek the services of the clinic on a daily basis.
  • Making decisions and solving problems related to Patient Care.
  • Liaising with Children’s Services, Schools, Probation Department, Police, Health Care providers and others in conducting social investigations, as well as case management for current patients.
  • Directing services to children and families, including screening, assessment, counseling, family therapy, casework and referrals.
  • Communicating with persons outside of the organization in the best interest of patients.
  • Collecting data pertaining to patients and clinic activities, analyze data for significant trends and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
  • Salary Scale: $ 3,759,184 – 4,468,488 per annum.

JOB PURPOSE

Under the general direction of the Director, Corporate Services, the Director, Health Facilities Maintenance is responsible for developing maintenance policies and strategies, establishing maintenance standards and guidelines for the public health sector and monitoring the quality of maintenance services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
  • Develops maintenance policies, strategies and procedures to be pursued by the Ministry of Health for the maintenance of facilities and equipment in the public health sector;
  • Establishes standards and guidelines for the operation of health facilities maintenance at the regional level of the health services;
  • Collaborates with the Director, Project Planning and Implementation to ensure that buildings and equipment used in government health sector are standardized to facilitate cost effect maintenance;

  • Ensures timely patient care and efficient and smooth patient flow in the clinic.
  • Assists and communicates with medical staff concerning patient care conditions.
  • Makes triage decisions using an established protocol.
  • Ensures that plans of care are in place and are regularly updated, changes are implemented and that patient records and documentation are maintained and current.
  • Participates in the case management of individual patients to ensure the continuum of care.
  • Conducts nursing care in a manner reflective of the philosophy of AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
  • Educates patient on disease process, safe sex education and medications.
  • Complies with safety and infection control standards, sterilization of medical equipment and biohazards waste management.
  • Promotes teamwork, good interpersonal relations and communication among staff at the healthcare setting.
  • Participates in nursing staff orientation and serves as a clinical resource.
  • Provides support to clinical team in dealing with the complex needs of different patients and when reporting or receiving sensitive, complex or contentious information.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as necessary (i.e., assisting other staff at times of critical need, attendance at all assigned committees).
  • Conveys complex and sensitive information in a comprehensible and empathic manner.
  • Exercises appropriate judgment and good decision-making skills.
  • Functions as the liaison with other health and social care professionals to ensure that the coordination, the approach and high quality of care is provided for patients.
  • Ensures up to date knowledge of local and national STI and HIV/AIDS treatment guidelines and work accordingly.
  • Ensures an enabling working environment free of stigma and discrimination.
  • Ensures registration of all patients accessing care at the facility and ensures the development and maintenance of all patient related medical records.
  • Ensures the efficient maintenance of the registration and patient waiting areas including the availability of education materials and other supplies required to ensure that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible.
  • Administers medications as ordered.
  • Reports emergencies to Physician.
  • Records all data using appropriate medical record databases.
  • Performs and accurately records basic tests including checking vital signs, weight and height; testing urine; glucose and other basic rapid tests.
  • Manages patient appointment system.
  • Assists with the inventory management of all items required for patient care and report to the Operations Manager any defective equipment or low stock.
  • Assist with patient retention in care through missed appointment logs and strict appointment follow ups.
  • Prepares all relevant reports as required.
  • Participate in outreach and advocacy events outside of working hours.


QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The incumbent must be in good standing with current knowledge of STI/AIDS/HIV infections and STI/AIDS/HIV treatment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Three (3) years working experience in general nursing
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of Jamaica and possess current certificate of registration.
  • Strong clinical nursing skills and judgement.
  • Training and skills to performing phlebotomy, HIV/Syphilis Rapid Tests.
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and related medical and patient care issues.
  • Knowledge of ARVs and STI drug therapies.
  • Knowledge on key population specificities and vulnerabilities.
  • Respect for patient’s confidentiality and having a compassionate approach to their needs is required.
COMPUTER/SOFTWARE SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Computer and Internet skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and any knowledge of digital medical database is an added advantage.

REGISTERED MIDWIFE – HPC/MW 2 for the Portland Health Department.

Reporting to the Public Health Nurse/Supervisory Midwife, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision
and co-ordination of child care activities; providing nursing care in the Maternal, Child Health and Family
Planning services in accordance with the objectives and policies of the programme as set out in the Maternal
and Child Health Care Plan for Jamaica.
The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:

  • Certificate/Diploma in Midwifery from an accredited institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in secondary care facility

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Participating in identifying special needs in communities in relation to Maternal and Child Health.
  • Preparing regular schedules for Antenatal/ Postnatal/ Child Welfare visits.
  • Providing Ante Natal care at clinics and arranges for follow-ups.
  • Estimating haemaglobin level of clients, using appropriate reagents.
  • Referring high risk patients to Type Ó€Ó€, Ó€Ó€Ó€ and Ó€V health centres as appropriate.
  • Ensuring that adequate screening of ante-natal patients is carried out
  • Providing advice to mothers and families about nutritional requirements including promotion of breast feeding.
  • Encouraging early immunization of babies.
  • Conducting clinics/assisting the Public Health Nurse in immunization.
  • Responsibility for the maintenance of midwifery bags and their contents.
  • Responsibility for notification of live/still births, neo-natal and maternal deaths, puerperal infection and other infectious diseases

REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:

  • Salary Scale: $3,241,533 – 3,853,164 per annum
