currently seeking to employ a Regional Pharmacist for the Regional Office. Reporting to the Regional
Technical Director, the incumbent will be responsible for evaluating, researching, monitoring and
auditing the delivery and availability of pharmaceuticals in Secondary and Primary Care Institutions
within the Regional Health Authority in keeping with national and international standards. He/she will
also co-ordinate the Pharmacy Internship and other relevant Trainee Programmes and provide technical
guidance. The incumbent will also be expected to:
- Collaborate with the Director, Pharmacy Services and Operations and the Regional Technical Director to ensure adequate delivery and availability of pharmaceuticals to facilities operated by Western Regional Health Authority
- Participate in Regional Performance Reviews to assess the technical achievements of the Region
- Participate in the preparation of the budgetary allocation for pharmaceuticals in the Region
- Provide technical advice to inform the Region’s activities on matters pertaining to provision of pharmaceuticals
- Represent the Region at local, regional and international events on matters related to Pharmacy and to health in general
- Prepare and submit performance and other reports within agreed timeframes
- Conduct audits and monitoring visits of pharmacy and patient care areas/wards to ensure proper delivery of pharmacy services. This includes drug use, quality control, and inventory management
- Investigate reports of noncompliance with policies and procedures relating to Pharmacy Services and take appropriate actions
- Attend scheduled meetings e.g. Drug and Therapeutics, Infection Prevention and Control, Emergency Disaster Management
- Co-ordinate the Pharmacy Externship and Internship programmes and Pharmacy Technician Clerkship programme
- Contribute to the preparation of the Region’s annual budget for pharmaceuticals
- Collaborate with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Standard and Regulations Unit with the inspection of any medical facility in Western Jamaica such as Private hospitals, Dialysis Units, Ophthalmic Centres, etc
- Provide guidance to healthcare professionals as they relate to the management, storage and handling of pharmaceuticals in medical facilities operated by Western Regional Health Authority – inclusive of controlled pharmaceuticals
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director, Pharmacy Services and Operations and the Regional Technical Director
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Good human relations and interpersonal skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and attention to detail
- Excellent skills in teamwork and cooperation
- Sound knowledge in pharmaceutical practices
- Sound knowledge of legislation and policies that govern the practice of pharmacies
- Proficiency in the use of relevant computer software and computer applications
- Graduate from an accredited institution with a Bachelor of Pharmacy
- Registration with the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica
- Five years or more experience in a Supervisory position
- Training in Public Service Management/Health Services Management would be an asset
- Training in Clinical Pharmacy would also be an asset
- Certification/ Training/exposure in Quality Assurance and Drug Regulation would be an asset
