The Pharmacist is responsible for proper management of the inventory and will adhere to the legal and ethical guidelines to ensure the correct and safe supply of medical products to the general public. The Pharmacist will supervise staff and ensure all guidelines are adhered to.

JOB SUMMARY

In the dispensing, the Pharmacist will ensure that the patients are duly counseled. The Pharmacist will also monitor the sales of over-the-counter medical products and instruct patients on the use of medicines and medical devices. Specialist health checks, such as blood pressure monitoring and diabetes screening will be done.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

PHARMACY SALES & MANAGEMENT
  • Coach and motivate the staff of the Pharmacy to meet performance objectives and provide excellent service to internal and external customers.
  • Maintain a risk log of the key risks which may impact the department and develops strategies to mitigate same.
  • Represent the company in the media as required.
  • Assist with policy and procedure (SOP) creation, implementation and review in conjunction with the management team in order to ensure business continuity
  • Direct staffing, training, and performance evaluations to develop and control sales and marketing programs.
  • Oversee employee relations and discipline administration.
  • Dispensing prescription medicines to the public using approved scripts from doctors
  • Ensuring that different treatments are compatible
  • Checking dosage and ensuring that medicines are correctly and safely supplied and labeled
  • Supervising the preparation of medication.
  • Keeping a register of controlled drugs for legal and stock control purposes
  • Liaise with doctors about prescriptions
  • Counseling and advising the public on the treatment of minor ailments

CLINICAL PHARMACIST
PHARMACY SERVICES DELIVERY DIVISION


ROLES AND FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
  • Develop, implement, co-ordinate and manage a clinical pharmacy programme.
  • Manage medication therapy in direct patient care settings, whether practicing independently or in consultation/collaboration with other health care professionals.
  • Specify and maintain the proper techniques and special protection needed for storage and preservation of therapeutic agents.
  • Participate in clinician led ward rounds as the drug expert, ensuring adherence to the Ministry of Health and Wellness’s Vital Essential and Necessary (VEN) List of Pharmaceuticals.

  • Maintain quality assurance systems to ensure the maintenance of standards and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Doctorate in Pharmacy Degree
  • Post Graduate Training in Clinical Pharmacy
  • Registered Pharmacist licensed by the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica
  • Registered Preceptor by the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica.
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management- an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) years working experience as a Pharmacist in a hospital pharmacy.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in Clinical Pharmacy.
SKILLS AND SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUES:
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of pharmacy software, Microsoft Word and Excel software.
  • In-depth and current knowledge on drugs, medical procedures and therapies, diagnosis and disease states as well as pharmacokinetics.
  • Knowledge of norms and standards related to the Ministry of Health and Wellness Drug Policy eg. VEN List and Dangerous Drugs.
  • Knowledge of World Health Organization’s good manufacturing practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following are specific responsibilities and contributions critical to the successful performance of the position:

  • Ensure that all items on the shelves have correct prices.
  • Monitor Inventory level to prevent overstocking. Create and update patient’s health and insurance information (profile) in the system.
  • Maintain an awareness of developments in the community and pharmaceutical fields that relate to job responsibilities and integrate them into practice
  • Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
  • Perform duties of Pharmacy Technician when needed.
  • Enter prescription orders into the system.
  • Perform cashiering duties according to schedule when needed.
  • Assist pharmacist with filing and labeling prescriptions.
  • Replenish shelves daily from excess stock and make note of low stock for reordering.
  • Remove returnable goods from shelves 3-4 months prior to expiration
  • Collect prescribed items from shelves for packing.
  • Verify that customers receives correct prescription(s)
  • Prepackage bulk medications
  • Compound mixtures or medications (e.g. oral suspensions, tropical ointments and/or creams)

  • Monitoring pre-packed items (Implement a system for control).
  • Perform blood glucose tests
  • Ensure all goods have correct pricing.
  • Promote items on special, especially to rewards customers.
  • Promote sale of complimentary products.
  • Provide price checks for goods when requested via phone, whatsApp or online
  • Generate receipts for at least 2 items kept inside the dispensary for customers.
  • Specific responsibility for Placing JADEP orders.
  • Assist cashiers when necessary such as delete items from the RMS system
  • Any other duties which may be assigned by the pharmacist, supervisor or manager.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following are specific responsibilities and contributions critical to the successful performance of the position:
  • Assist patients who are dropping off or picking up prescription orders.
  • Accurately and efficiently preparing prescription orders.
  • Create and update patient’s health and insurance information (profile in the computer).
  • Providing quality customer service to patients and other healthcare providers.
  • Maintain an awareness of developments in the community and pharmaceutical fields that relate to job responsibilities and integrate them into practice.
  • Enter prescription orders into the system.
  • Assist pharmacist with filing and labeling prescriptions.
  • Replenish shelves daily from excess stock and make note of low inventory for reordering.
  • Verify that customers receives correct prescription(s).
  • Prepackage bulk medications.
  • Compound mixtures or medications (e.g. oral suspensions, tropical ointments and/or creams).
  • Maintain an awareness of developments in the community and pharmaceutical fields.
  • Receive ordered stock and assist with packing of new goods received.
  • Assist with filing prescription.
  • Performs other duties which may be assigned by the pharmacist or supervisor.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:
In addition to performance of the essential functions above, this position may be required to perform a combination of other supportive functions, to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of Fontana Limited.

EXPERIENCE; EDUCATION OR CERTIFICATION
