SPECIALIST NURSE – HPC/RN 2
The Western Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness,
with responsibility for the management and delivery of Public Health Services within the parishes of Hanover, St. James, Trelawny and Westmoreland invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Specialist Nurse for the Noel Holmes Hospital in Hanover, the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, St. James, Falmouth Hospital in Trelawny and the Savanna-la-mar Hospital in Westmoreland.

Reporting to the Public Health Nurse, the incumbent will be responsible to give advanced level of care to
patients who may have life threatening illnesses, undergoing surgery or have specific health needs requiring
specialized Nursing intervention.

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:
  • BSc. in Nursing / Midwifery
  • Minimum of Four (4) years work experience
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
Related Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice
  • Knowledge of medical machinery, resuscitative drugs, their dosages and side effects
  • Knowledge of basic principles of management
  • Ability of observe, assess, and evaluate life threatening conditions and apply appropriate interventions
  • Ability to make calculated and quick decisions and to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with members of the health team as well as patients and relatives
  • Emotionally and mentally stable
Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care of patients
  • Anticipates potential nursing problems and develops appropriate plans to deal with same
  • Initiates patient management in crisis situations e.g. cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Conducts and supervises prenatal, intra-natal, postnatal and total maternal and child healthcare including family care
  • Monitors and interprets data presented by mechanical devices and takes appropriate action
  • Interprets bio-chemical data and acts accordingly
  • Other duties as assigned

REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
  • Salary Scale: $4,032,538 – 4,793,421 per annum along with any other allowance(s) attached to the post.
Also require Registered Nurses - (HPC/RN 1)

Attendant - Washers (Montego Bay, Jamaica) - Western Regional Health Authority

ATTENDANT WASHERS (LMO/TS 2) - Regional Office

Salary Scale: $857,012.00 - $1,152,632.00 per annum





The Western Regional Health Authority (a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness) is
currently seeking to employ Attendant Washers for the Regional Office. Under the direct supervision
of the Transport Manager, the Attendant (Washer) is primarily responsible for the cleaning and
sanitization of the vehicles in the fleet and assisting with other duties in the department. The incumbent
will also be expected to:
CORE FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensure that vehicles are properly parked on the washstand/wash area by the Driver before initiating the assessment for cleaning
  • Inspect the external and internal features of the vehicle for any damages before cleaning
  • Record or report any damages observed during the assessment to the Transport Manager immediately
  • Clean vehicles thoroughly based on the agreed schedule or as instructed by:
a. External
    • Using a hose or power wash to rinse off loose dirt and debris off the exterior of the vehicle
    • Using a soft mitt or sponge with soapy water to gently wash the vehicle’s surface from top to bottom including the tires. Refrain from using harsh brushes that can scratch the vehicle
    • Rinsing the vehicle thoroughly to remove all soap residue
    • Using a microfiber fabric to dry the vehicle from top to bottom
    • Using a suitable glass cleaner and clean cloth to clean windows and mirrors
    • Applying tire dressing as desired
b. Interior
    • Vacuuming the interior of the vehicle by removing dirt and debris from seats and carpets
    • Wiping the surfaces such as the dashboard, steering wheel, seats and gear stick with a suitable interior cleaning solution
    • Applying air freshener as instructed
  • Upon completion of cleaning, contact the Driver/Manager to remove the vehicle from the washstand/wash area
  • Return all cleaning supplies and equipment to their designated storage area
  • Assist with cleaning of the garage/ area as directed
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Transport Manager

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Basic written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to write a basic incident/accident report
  • Good interpersonal and customer relations skills
  • Good time management skills
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Ability to read and write plus one (1) year of relevant experience

Regional Pharmacist (St. James, Jamaica) - Western Regional Health Authority

The Western Regional Health Authority (a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness) is
currently seeking to employ a Regional Pharmacist for the Regional Office. Reporting to the Regional
Technical Director, the incumbent will be responsible for evaluating, researching, monitoring and
auditing the delivery and availability of pharmaceuticals in Secondary and Primary Care Institutions
within the Regional Health Authority in keeping with national and international standards. He/she will
also co-ordinate the Pharmacy Internship and other relevant Trainee Programmes and provide technical
guidance. The incumbent will also be expected to:

CORE FUNCTIONS:
  • Collaborate with the Director, Pharmacy Services and Operations and the Regional Technical Director to ensure adequate delivery and availability of pharmaceuticals to facilities operated by Western Regional Health Authority
  • Participate in Regional Performance Reviews to assess the technical achievements of the Region
  • Participate in the preparation of the budgetary allocation for pharmaceuticals in the Region
  • Provide technical advice to inform the Region’s activities on matters pertaining to provision of pharmaceuticals
  • Represent the Region at local, regional and international events on matters related to Pharmacy and to health in general
  • Prepare and submit performance and other reports within agreed timeframes
  • Conduct audits and monitoring visits of pharmacy and patient care areas/wards to ensure proper delivery of pharmacy services. This includes drug use, quality control, and inventory management
  • Investigate reports of noncompliance with policies and procedures relating to Pharmacy Services and take appropriate actions
  • Attend scheduled meetings e.g. Drug and Therapeutics, Infection Prevention and Control, Emergency Disaster Management
  • Co-ordinate the Pharmacy Externship and Internship programmes and Pharmacy Technician Clerkship programme
  • Contribute to the preparation of the Region’s annual budget for pharmaceuticals
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Standard and Regulations Unit with the inspection of any medical facility in Western Jamaica such as Private hospitals, Dialysis Units, Ophthalmic Centres, etc
  • Provide guidance to healthcare professionals as they relate to the management, storage and handling of pharmaceuticals in medical facilities operated by Western Regional Health Authority – inclusive of controlled pharmaceuticals
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director, Pharmacy Services and Operations and the Regional Technical Director

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Good human relations and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and attention to detail
  • Excellent skills in teamwork and cooperation
  • Sound knowledge in pharmaceutical practices
  • Sound knowledge of legislation and policies that govern the practice of pharmacies
  • Proficiency in the use of relevant computer software and computer applications
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduate from an accredited institution with a Bachelor of Pharmacy
  • Registration with the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica
  • Five years or more experience in a Supervisory position
  • Training in Public Service Management/Health Services Management would be an asset
  • Training in Clinical Pharmacy would also be an asset
  • Certification/ Training/exposure in Quality Assurance and Drug Regulation would be an asset

Registered Midwife (Westmoreland, Jamaica) - Western Regional Health Authority

 Location: Westmoreland Public Health Services - Darliston Health District covering Berkshire and St. Leonards.

Registered Midwife- HPC/MW3

The incumbent will be responsible for providing safe, efficient and effective therapeutic care in accordance with the objectives and policies of the Maternal and Child Health Care Plan for Jamaica.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or BSc. in Midwifery
  • Certificate in Nursing Administration.
  • At least three (3) years working experience in a similar field.

 Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the functions, coordination and development of midwifery personnel within area assigned.
  • Participate with Public Health staff in planning, implementing and evaluating activities for the area.
  • Supervise and give direction to Midwives and Community Health Aides assigned to Health Centres within the area.
