JOB PURPOSE
Under the general supervision of the Medical Technologist, the incumbent performs per-examination duties in the laboratory in the assistance to meet laboratory’s goals and objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
- Swab work in area in preparation for the day’s work
- Receives, sort, logs and dispatches specimen received from the Specimen Area and referral institutions
- Assist in maintaining documentation of sample to be discarded
- Assist with maintenance of statistical records and quality documents for the department
- Logging of room and refrigerator temperatures, and assisting with maintaining of equipment maintenance logs
- Stain, mount and label of slides
- Assist in stock taking
- Issuing report via telephone to medical doctors
- Discard samples that have been used
- Prepared reagents and chemicals for department eg. 10% bleach
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Four (4) CXC or GCE O’Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Biology and another subject
- Certificate in Phlebotomy/Venipuncture is an asset
