Enrolled Assistant Nurse (St. Ann's Bay, St. Ann, Jamaica) - St. Ann's Bay Regional Hospital (NERHA)

 

The North-East Regional Health Authority (NERHA), a statutory body under the Ministry of Health with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, invite applications from suitably qualified persons with strong team building skills to fill the position of Enrolled Assistant Nurse (HTAC/EAN 1) at the St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital.
Reporting to the Director, Nursing Services the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the
administration of nursing services within the hospital.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A graduate of a recognized School of Nursing.
  • Enrolled with the Nursing Council of Jamaica.

Specific Knowledge Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of current legislation affecting the practice of Nursing in Jamaica
  • Knowledge of the Staff Orders for the Public Service.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with the admission, discharge and transfer of patients
  • Assisting in explaining hospital rules and routines to patients
  • Sharing responsibility for a safe and comfortable environment for the patients
  • Assisting patients in moving and turning, getting in and out of bed, positioning and walking as needed
  • Assisting with the inter-facility transportation of patients
  • Maintaining personal hygiene of the patient according to the needs and condition; that is bathing, cutting
  • nails, combing hair, oral hygiene
  • Assisting with the preparation of patient’s meals and in the feeding of patients
  • Assisting with the patient in dressing and undressing
  • Giving, removing and checking bed pans and urinals
  • Changing linen and making beds
  • Administering alcohol or tepid sponges to reduce body temperature
  • Collecting specimens of urine, faeces, sputum and vomitus
  • Observing temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressures of patients
  • Measuring heights and weights
  • Observing symptoms, reactions, attitudes and changes in the patient’s condition; and report to the
  • Registered Nurse
  • Preparing patients for and assisting doctors and nurses in examination, treatment and diagnostic tests
  • Sharing responsibility for the control of infection
  • Preparing instruments and equipment for storage and sterilization
  • Sterilizing instruments and equipment
  • Sharing responsibility for keeping the patient’s unit clean and tidy
  • Assist in receiving, checking and storing supplies
  • Perform simple dressings
  • Administering medications excluding dangerous drugs as ordered e.g., orally, rectally or by injection-subcutaneous and intramuscular and carrying out other treatments as assigned
  • Co-operating with other members of staff and accepting guidance and corrections
REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
  • Salary Scale: $2,078,360 – $2,470,517 per annum

Ward/Nurse Manager (St. Ann, Jamaica) - St. Ann's Bay Regional Hospital (NERHA)

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness, with responsibility for the management and delivery of Public Health Services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary, and Portland invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of WARD/NURSE MANAGER – HPC/RN 3 for the St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital.

Reporting to the Director, Nursing Services, the incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing,
coordinating and evaluating of nursing services in a patient care unit within the hospital.
The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:

  • BSc. in General Nursing, plus
  • Certificate in Midwifery, plus
  • Bachelor or Certificate in Nursing Administration/ Health Services Administration or equivalent post
  • registration qualification in Administration/ Management
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ work experience
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
Related Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Behavioural and Medical Sciences
  • Knowledge of Nutrition, Pharmacology and Therapeutics,
  • Knowledge of nursing health and related legislations
  • Ability to make calculated and quick decisions and to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with members of the health team as well as patients and relatives

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Supervising the clinical management of patients within the unit
  • Establishing the patient classification system
  • Acts promptly and decisively in emergency situations
  • Conducts quality assurance audit
  • Gives direct care to seriously ill patients
  • Lead nursing and medical ward rounds and provide nursing consultation on clinical status of individual patients

REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:

Salary Scale: $5,055,684 – 6,009,620 per annum

PHYSICIAN

Diagnoses and treats Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV. This involves obtaining medical history and health status, performing general and/or focused medical examination of patients, diagnosing, advising and carrying out the necessary treatment and care of patients as well as making referrals for further professional and medical attention.

SUMMARY

Diagnoses and treats Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV by performing the following duties – this involves obtaining medical history and health status, performing general and/or focused medical examination of patients, diagnosing, advising and carrying out the necessary treatment and care of patients as well as making referrals for further professional and medical attention.

All activities must be geared towards maintaining the highest levels of service to all internal and external stakeholders and clients. Must be sensitive to children’s issues and must conform to the guidelines and standards set by The Authority and to all legal, regulatory and statutory requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.
  • Examines patients to assess their health condition.
  • Conducts examinations to ill patients and evaluate symptoms to determine their condition.
  • Gives appropriate advice for healthy habits (diet, hygiene etc.) and preventative actions to promote overall health.
  • Orders various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed medical records about each patient, including observations during examination.
  • Keeps record of patients according to AHF quality standards.
  • Analyzes reports and findings of tests and examination, and diagnoses condition.
  • Prescribes medications and drugs and provide comprehensive instructions for administration.
  • Refers patients to other physician specialists for specialized treatment.
  • Collaborates with other physicians and nurses to form a high performing medical team.
  • Follows the Health National Guidelines for STI and HIV treatment and care.
  • Functions as a liaison with the State STI/HIV/AIDS State Program to assure that treatment and care guidelines are followed.
  • Ensures up to date knowledge of local and national STI and HIV guidelines and work within them.
  • Ensures a working environment free of stigma and discrimination.


QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed in this Job Description are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. AHF medical practitioners must be in good standing with an up to date knowledge of STI/AIDS/HIV infections and STI/AIDS/HIV treatment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Registration as a medical practitioner by The Medical Council of Jamaica.
  • Three (3) years’ post internship experience.
  • Proven experience as a physician.
  • Excellent knowledge of STI, HIV/AIDS, their symptoms and epidemiology, as well as related treatments.
  • Respect for patient’s confidentiality, compassionate and approachable.
COMPUTER/SOFTWARE SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Computer and Internet skills, including experience with MS Word and Excel. PowerPoint and any other database is an added advantage.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Working level of English and/or Spanish is an asset.

OTHER REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of Public Health Ordinances and medical jurisprudence.
  • Ability to examine patients and prescribe and administer necessary treatment.
  • Knowledge about the principles and practices of medicine including the diagnosis and treatment of STI’s, HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases.
  • Ability to do pap-smears.
  • Knowledge about local and international protocols for treating STI’s, HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases.
  • Confidentiality with respect to information records concerning all patients.
  • Ability to use tact and be sensitive when dealing with patients and their families.
  • Demonstrable interest in patients, their needs and rights.
  • Patient-centered approach focus when working with all patients regardless of their sexual orientation.

Nurse Anaesthetist (St. Ann, Jamaica) - St. Ann's Bay Regional Hospital (NERHA)

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness, with responsibility for the management and delivery of Public Health Services within the parishes of St.Ann, St. Mary, and Portland invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Nurse Anaesthetist for the St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital.

Reporting to the Supervisory Nurse Anaesthetist, the incumbent will provide more accessible and effective Anaesthesia and related care to the patients and to facilitate diagnostic, therapeutic or surgical
procedures.

The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:
  • BSc. in Nursing / Midwifery
  • Certificate or Diploma in Anaesthesia

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Interview patients and other family members to obtain an appropriate health history including biophysical and psychosocial data
  • Observe and analyze physical examination
  • Recommend and/or request and evaluate pertinent diagnostic studies
  • Make nursing select medical or differential diagnosis and institute corrective measures
  • Formulate patients specific anaesthetic plan of care based on a comprehensive patient assessment, problem analysis and the anticipated surgical or therapeutic procedures
  • Select, order and/or administer pre-anaesthetic medication
  • Record complete, accurate and timely pertinent information
  • Induce and maintain anaesthesia at required level
  • Perform tracheal intubation and extubation and provide mechanical ventilation when required
  • Manage patient’s fluid, blood, electrolyte and acid base balance
  • Provide post -anaesthetic care
  • Provide peri-anaesthesia support
REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:
  • Salary Scale: $5,423,316 – 6,446,618 per annum along with any other allowance(s) attached to the post.
