Dental Nurse/Hygienist, Dental Assistant (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Defence Force - (Civilian)

Applications are invited to fill the following positions within the Jamaica Defence Force Civilian (JDF):

  1. Dental Nurse/Hygienist (HTAC/DN 2) - Two (2) positions: Vacant - Garrison Administrative Unit (Health Services Corps) - Salary range: $3,759,184 - $4, 468, 488 per annum and any allowance(s) attached to the post.
  2. Dental Assistant (HTAC/DA 1) - One (1) position: Vacant - Garrison Administrative Unit (Health Services Corps) - Salary range: $2,078,360 - $2,410,261 per annum and any allowance(s) attached to the post. 
GARRISON ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT (HEALTH SERVICES CORPS)

Dental Nurse/Hygienist (HTAC/DN 2) - Two (2) Positions: Vacant

Under the general direction of the Force Dental Officer, the incumbent is responsible for assessing and providing oral health treatment to patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patients screened
  • Triage assessments done
  • Medical health history reviews conducted
  • Vital signs taken, routine and diagnostics oral examination
  • Patient records maintained
  • Dental radiographs (X-rays) taken and developed 
  • Local anesthetics administered
  • Assist with the supervision of the Dental Assistant and Dental Assistant Administrator
  • Information on oral hygiene strategies provided
  • Patient records maintained and updated
  • Vital signs of patients taken and recorded before dentist proceeds with examination process
  • Patients provided with information on appropriate oral hygiene strategies
  • Dental radiographs taken and developed in accordance to standards
  • Thorough assessment of oral health trauma, making provision for appropriate treatment
  • Prepare reports as necessary
  • Proper oral health and dental hygiene procedures administered to all patients in keeping with specified standards and guidelines

Minimum Required Education and Experience Qualifications & Experience:
  • BSc degree in Dental Nursing from an approved institution
  • Registration with the Dental Council of Jamaica
  • Valid dental nursing license
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working within the dental field
Special Conditions of the Job:
  • Typical working environment
  • May be required to work beyond the normal working hours
  • May be required to work on weekends and public holidays
  • Office located some distance from the main entrance
  • May be subjected to search based on JDF's rule

Dental Assistant (HTAC/DA 1) - One (1) position: Vacant) 

Under the general direction of the Force Dental Officer, the incumbent is responsible for the preparation of surgeries for daily procedure and stocktaking of materials and instruments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that service given patients conforms with the dental regulation and guidelines of the Health and Dental Act
  • Record treatments and information on patients in their dockets
  • Administer appropriate first and technique to patients in need
  • Take and record patient's medical and dental history and vital signs (blood pressure, temperature and pulse)
  • Maintain and service autoclave and equipment 
  • Provide post-operative instructions prescribed by the Dentist
  • Prepare patient, sterilize and disinfect instruments
  • Set up instruments and trays for dental surgeon
  • Prepare materials for specific procedures
  • Assist dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies
  • Prepare surgeries for daily procedure
  • Chairside assisting of Oral Health instructions
  • Chairside assisting of specialists - implant orthodontic
  • Post-operative and oral instructions are given to patients

Pharmacist (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Defence Force

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) invites applications from suitable candidates to fill the position of Pharmacist with the Regular Force. Candidates must fulfill the following requirements -

Nationality: Be a citizen of the Commonwealth.

Pharmacist, Support Brigade

Qualifications
  • Hold the minimum qualification of a BSc Pharmacy from an accredited university.
  • Requisite registration with the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica (Rph).
  • At least three (3) years experience in a similar capacity.
Responsibilities
  • Routine review of drug orders for appropriateness and safety.
  • Counselling patients on correct use of medications, warnings, contraindications and answering drug related queries.
  • Conduct follow-up evaluations of patient therapies to ensure patient compliance and favourable outcomes with the use of drugs.
  • Evaluate response of patients with chronic conditions to respective drug therapies and make recommendations to physicians where necessary.
  • Supervise the manufacture and compounding of extemporaneous preparations in accordance with medication order requests.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians involved in the processing of prescriptions, manufacturing of drugs or managing of inventory.
  • Ensure the pharmacy area is operated in accordance with the laws governing pharmacy practice in Jamaica.
Knowledge and Technical Skills
  • Ability to manage and dispense medications accurately and safely;
  • Skills in patient counselling and medication therapy management;
  • Proficiency in conducting pharmaceutical care assessments and developing individualized patient plans;
  • Expertise in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics to optimize medication efficacy and minimize adverse effects;
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical legislation and ethical standards for pharmacy practice;
  • Ability to maintain comprehensive pharmacy records in compliance with legal and military regulations;
  • Skills in inventory management and supply chain logistics to ensure the availability of medications;
  • Capacity to contribute to public health programs and initiatives within the military community;
  • Competence in delivering training and education on medication use and health promotion;
  • Engagement in pharmaceutical research activities, including drug utilization and outcome studies;

Critical and Analytical Thinking Skills
  • Strong ability to work independently;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work cohesively within a diverse community;

Pharmacy Technician (Kingston, Jamaica) - Jamaica Defence Force

 The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) invites suitably qualified persons to enlist in the JDF as a Professional Entry Enlisted Rank (PEER), to fill the following position:

Pharmacy Technician


Candidates must meet the following requirements and competencies:
  • Nationality - Be a Commonwealth citizen
Professional and Educational Requirements:
  • Pharmacy Technician Certificate from an accredited tertiary level institution
  • A minimum of one (1) year working as a Pharmacy Technician in a Pharmacy
Key Competencies:
Knowledge and Technical Skills:
  • Excellent knowledge of pharmaceutical inventory and records management
  • Good knowledge of pharmacology and drug information
  • Ability to read and interpret prescriptions
  • Proficient in calculating pharmaceutical doses

Key Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Supports pharmacological services by stocking, assembling and distributing medications
  • Organizes medications for Pharmacist to disperse, by reading medication orders and prescriptions, preparing labels, calculating quantities, and assembling intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical therapies
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed medications and supplies, and removing outdated drugs as directed
  • Maintain a clean and safe pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
  • Ensures medication availability  by delivering medications to patients and departments
  • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information
