Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Orderly, the incumbent will be required to
Qualifications and Experience:
  • School Leaving Certificate (Secondary Education)
  • English Language in GCE O’Level/CXC at the General Proficiency level would be an asset
  • At least one (1) year experience within the hospital environment or service industry
  • Be physically fit and able to bend, stand and lift.

Specific Knowledge & Skills:
  • Physical Fitness
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Ability to respect patient confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral format
  • Good time management skills
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Required to transport patients to Out-patients clinics, Casualty, to the Wards, for laboratory and x-ray
  • services. This is done with wheelchairs and stretchers given the required situation
  • Required to lift and support patients who are unable to walk
  • Assigned to work with ambulance service periodically
  • Required to deliver items from one area of the hospital to another
  • Required to assist in maintaining the hospital buildings and compound by assisting in the cleaning of same
  • Required to empty and clean all garbage receptacles and replace them in their appropriate areas
  • Required to clean and keep in good condition, all the tools he has to work with eg. Wheelchairs, stretchers, etc.

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Senior Payroll Officer, the Payroll Officer prepares salary for monthly paid employees and properly maintain salary records.

KEY OUTPUTS

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
Technical Responsibilities
  • Notes information from salary advice on salary record;
  • Ensures that all payroll information on the computerised payroll system is maintained accurately;
  • Calculates salaries and effect the necessary changes relating to the new salary rates, arrears of salary, acting appointments, resignation, new employment and deductions;
  • Enters changes on salaries record and on the salaries control at the time;
  • Checks payroll register against entries on the salary records for errors or omissions and return cards for necessary corrections;
  • Balances salary control and ensures that payroll register and salaries control is in agreement;
  • Prepares late payments for employees not listed on payroll register;
  • Processes authorised deductions;
  • Facilitates the electronic transfer of salaries to financial institutions and other deduction recipients;
  • Files earning records, salary records, signing sheets and payroll register;
  • Prepares Journal vouchers in respect of over payments of salary to employees;
  • Prepares P45 and salary particulars for officers who have resigned or have been transferred;
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
  • Salary is prepared on a timely basis and in accordance with the FAA Act and other Government Financial Regulations;
  • Salary controls are balanced before payday
Minimum Required Education (at least one from the list) and Experience
  • AAT Level 2
  • ACCA-CAT Level B/Level 2
  • NVQJ Level 2, Accounting
  • Certificate in Accounting from an Accredited University;
  • Completion of second year of the BSc. Degree in Accounting/Management Studies;
  • ASc. Degree in Business Studies/Business Administration/Management Studies
  • ASc. Degree in Accounting from the Management Institute of National Development (MIND); or
  • Certificate in Government Accounting Level 2

REGISTERED MIDWIFE – HPC/MW 2 for the Portland Health Department.

Reporting to the Public Health Nurse/Supervisory Midwife, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision
and co-ordination of child care activities; providing nursing care in the Maternal, Child Health and Family
Planning services in accordance with the objectives and policies of the programme as set out in the Maternal
and Child Health Care Plan for Jamaica.
The ideal candidate will meet the following educational criteria:

  • Certificate/Diploma in Midwifery from an accredited institution
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in secondary care facility

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Participating in identifying special needs in communities in relation to Maternal and Child Health.
  • Preparing regular schedules for Antenatal/ Postnatal/ Child Welfare visits.
  • Providing Ante Natal care at clinics and arranges for follow-ups.
  • Estimating haemaglobin level of clients, using appropriate reagents.
  • Referring high risk patients to Type ӀӀ, ӀӀӀ and ӀV health centres as appropriate.
  • Ensuring that adequate screening of ante-natal patients is carried out
  • Providing advice to mothers and families about nutritional requirements including promotion of breast feeding.
  • Encouraging early immunization of babies.
  • Conducting clinics/assisting the Public Health Nurse in immunization.
  • Responsibility for the maintenance of midwifery bags and their contents.
  • Responsibility for notification of live/still births, neo-natal and maternal deaths, puerperal infection and other infectious diseases

REMUNERATION PACKAGE PER ANNUM:

individual to fill the position of SUPERVISORY HOSPITAL ATTENDANT (HSC/HS 3) for the Port Maria Hospital.

Summary:
Under the general direction of the Hospital Administrator, the incumbent is responsible for the
supervision of housekeeping personnel in all departments; coordinating activities to ensure areas
are properly cleaned in a timely manner; preparing rosters, assigning duties, inspecting work,
investigating complaints regarding housekeeping services, and taking corrective action(s).

Requirements:
  • Grade 9 Primary Education
  • NCTVET certificate in Housekeeping (Level 2-3)
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management
  • A minimum of one (1) year work experience in a similar position would be an asset.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing rosters and assigning work to cleaning personnel for all areas of the hospital, and selected residences.
  • Ensuring standards of cleanliness, hygiene and tidiness are maintained throughout the facility and taking corrective actions where necessary.
  • Attending Infection Control Committee meetings.
  • Inspecting work of Hospital Attendants assigned to the laundry for conformance to prescribed standards of cleanliness.
  • Supervising operations of Laundry, ensuring timely washing, drying, repairing of linen and
  • distribution to wards.
  • Ensuring proper management of shifts.
  • Ordering and maintaining stocks to ensure adequate supplies of cleaning materials/tools are
available for use.

  • Salary Scale: $ 1,332,574 – 1,584,011 per annum

Community Mental Health Officer (St. Ann, Jamaica) - St. Ann Health Department

The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness with responsibility for the management and delivery of public health services within the parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, is seeking strong, dynamic, and proactive individuals to fill the position of Community Mental Health Officer (HPC/RN 3) at the St. Ann Health Department. Reporting to the Medical Officer (Health), the successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical care; follow up treatment, rehabilitation and advocacy services at the community level for persons living with mental illness.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Registered General Nurse
  • Certified Psychiatric Nurse (Six months Post Basic Programme)
  • Certificate in Nursing Administration or Management studies, no less than six (6) months from an accredited institution
  • A Minimum of three (3) years post-registration practice in general health, mental health or other areas of nursing.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
  • Knowledge of and skill in interpreting the Mental Health Act
  • Knowledge of theories and techniques in counselling
  • Knowledge of key stake-holders pertinent to mental health and the delineation of roles and responsibilities

  • Assists in monitoring clinical standards at the parish level and facilitates audit processes.

Technical
  • Conducts multi-generational family assessment including psychosocial, functional, developmental history and mental status examination.
  • Counsels and educates patients/other family members on health behaviour, self-care skills and treatment options.
