Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Matron/Assistant Matron, the Patient Care Assistant will ensure residents of the Infirmary are cared for with dignified consideration and their well-being attended to in keeping with established standards and procedures including the following:
  • Completely bathe clients and or assist with difficult tasks such as washing back and getting in and out of the tub/shower when clients are unable to do so independently
  • Assists with dressing and undressing of clients or provide supervision when clients are unable to do so
  • Assist with bladder and or bowel problems including the provision and removal of bed pans or supervising clients (as necessary) when they are unable to take care of their own toilet needs
  • Assist clients to move with or without mechanical aid (e.g. wheel chair, walker), or when moving on difficult stairs, slopes, etc
  • Assist clients with getting in and out of bed or wheel chair or on and off the toilet or providing supervision when clients can do so without assistance
  • Participates in recreational activities (e.g. devotional sessions, games, etc)
  • Assists clients to move to prevent secondary disabilities or medical issues
  • Encourages independence by allowing clients to perform by themselves activities which they are capable of doing

Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • Completion of secondary education
  • Certificate in Practical Nursing from a recognized institution
  • In-service training/basic first aid
