Job Summary
The incumbent will be responsible for working cooperatively with families in the community in order to identify health related problems and bring them to health professionals. He/she is directly responsible to the Community Nurse and is expected to work co-operatively with all members of the health team.

Specific Knowledge Required

  • Knowledge of community health.
  • Practical experience of giving simple nursing care.
  • Good communication skills.
Qualification & Experience
  • Two (2) ‘O’ Level/CXC subjects; English Language compulsory.
  • HEART TRUST certification in Community Health Aide/ Healthcare Assistant.
  • Public health and/or service industry experience would be an asset.
Key Responsibilities
  • Teach simple health facts to the people of the community he/she serves.
  • Encourage and advise parents and guardians to have their children completely immunized against infectious diseases.
  • Encourage the regular attendance of infants to the Child Welfare Clinic from an early age.
  • Give simple nursing care to those individuals where this type of care is indicated e.g. bed baths
  • Assist the Community Nurses and District Midwives in ensuring that all expectant mothers in the area receive adequate pre-natal and post-natal care.
  • Participate in information gathering or data collection activities.
  • Record feedback on health problems and related interventions conducted in the community.
  • Motivate and refer clients to health facilities for investigation and/or treatment.
  • Assist in organizing and participating in interventions initiated by the health department.

Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Parish Administrative Officer, the incumbent operates multi-line telephone system to answer incoming calls, directs callers to appropriate personnel; receive, log and distributes incoming mail to the various department; provide information/guidance to clients/visitors.

Qualification and Experience:
  • Minimum five (5) subjects at CXC/GCE O'Level inclusive of English Language.
  • Training in switchboard operating techniques.

Plus
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in PBX operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Receives incoming telephone calls, determines purpose of calls, and forward calls to appropriate personnel or department.
  • Place outgoing calls; ensure that a log is kept of all mobile and overseas calls.
  • Welcomes on-site visitors, determines nature of business, and announces visitors to appropriate personnel.
  • Answers questions about the organization and provides callers with address, directions, and other information.
  • Receive, log and distribute incoming mail/documents to the relevant departments.
  • Hold outgoing mail/documents to be collected. Ensure that log is signed.
  • Type miscellaneous documents for the department.
  • Operate the electronic door.
  • Ensure that the furniture in the lobby are neatly arranged and the area is kept tidy and inviting.
Specific Knowledge/Skills Required:
  • Working knowledge of office procedures
  • Must be polite and courteous while answering the phone
  • Active listening skills
  • Well developed human relations skills.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Good time management skills.

Technician’s Job Description
  • Assist veterinarians, by performing more routine tasks, freeing them for specialized, complex tasks. .
  • Assist veterinarians perform duties in the medical, surgical, and therapeutic treatment of animals.
  • Under the direction of veterinarians, they assist with physical examinations that help determine the nature of the illness or injury.
  • They assist with immunizations and administer medications, anesthesia and blood plasma to the animals as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Technicians take and record temperature, pulse and respiration.
  • They collect and label specimens for culture or microscopic examination.
  • They dress and bandage wounds, apply splints and other protective devices, and clean and extract teeth.
  • They also give enemas and perform catheterization, ear flushes, intravenous feedings, and gavage (the introduction of food into the stomach by means of a tube).
  • Veterinary Technicians operate electro-cardio graphic and radiographic equipment and also expose and develop diagnostic radiographs.
  • In surgery, they assist veterinarians by providing correct equipment and instruments and by ensuring that monitoring and support equipment such as anesthetic machines, cardiac monitors, scopes and breathing apparatus are in good working condition.
  • Technicians must also maintain treatment records and inventory of all pharmaceuticals, equipment and supplies.
  • They may give emergency resuscitation or do other life saving procedures. Observation of the behavior and condition of the animals being cared for is an important part of the job.

Skills & Competencies:
  • Techs must be able to use the computer system for billing, training and general improvement of their skills.
  • Techs must be multi-skilled and take on clinical as well as clerical roles as needed. In particular technicians must be able to complete transactions and act as a temporary receptionist should the receptionist be absent from the front desk.
  • Techs should be able to advise clients on general pet care – healthy housing and feeding; vaccinations, taking animals abroad- and they must be able to recognize emergency situations.
  • Techs should also have a basic understanding of cat, dog and rabbit anatomy and physiology, and be familiar with the common parasites and micro-organisms which cause disease in pets.

  • All staff need to understand each other's roles so that they avoid conflict.
  • All staff should embrace Team work and communication to achieve the practice and personal goals.
  • All staff should have knowledge of common veterinary terminology.

  • All staff should ensure that bills are completed accurately.
  • Personal characteristics necessary for success in the job include a keen interest in animals, the ability to communicate well, and aptitudes to learn and independently apply techniques and methods of examination and treatment of animals. 
  • Interpersonal and team building skills are considered essential for success in this position.
  • The assistant at all times should be cordial and helpful to his/her colleagues, doctors and especially our clients. There should be no task that is too large or too small for an assistant to help with. Peer reviews will be used to measure assistant’s team building skills and desire to collaborate on tasks.
