Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Technical Operator (SOG/St 3) at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
Summary of Duties:
Under the general direction of the Deputy Technical Director, the Technical Operator is responsible for:
- Monitoring the availability of gas at all areas and ensuring that the Deputy Technical Director is informed in a manner so as to ensure timely ordering/delivery of adequate supplies
- Coordinating the delivery and inter-connection of bulk oxygen and other gases at the Main Operating Theater, Accident and Emergency, Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Monitoring medical gas distribution systems on the wards, theaters, Accident & Emergency, Intensive Care Unit, Recovery Room and Labour Ward, and initiate repairs to ensure safe operation for each patient
- Monitoring steam generation transmission and end use system in the kitchen, theater, labour wards, calorifier rooms and CSSD to ensure safe, efficient and effective operation
- Initiating and coordinating effective repairs in all areas of the steam system
- Arranging with the Transport Supervisor for medical gas to be transported to Main Operating Theater, Labour Wards and Accident and Emergency whenever necessary
- Assisting with the removal of cylinders to be given by two (2) Porters from the Porter's Pool
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
- Diploma in Mechanical Maintenance from a recognized institution
- Five (5) CXC subjects including Mathematics and English Language
- Three (3) years experience in a similar position
- Relevant on the job training is encouraged to enhance performance
