Salary Range: $9,860.00 - $11,156.00 per week
JOB PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Livestock Research Officer (SOG/ST 5), the Farm Hand (LMO/TS 2) is responsible for the coalition and editing of requisite data, assists with the day to day husbandry, nutritional, breeding and health care practices necessary for the maintenance and improvement of the Swine Multiplication Unit.
KEY OUTPUTS
- Data prepared.
- Sick animals scheduled for treatment.
- Animals properly fed and watered.
- Animals’ accommodation properly cleaned and sanitized.
- Established feeding system followed.
- Receptive females identified for mating.
- Scheduled husbandry practices viz, deworming, spraying and weighing of animals carried out.
- Animals’ birth and death reported.
- Animals in ill health identified and reported.
- Minor repairs done to gates, pens and watering systems.
- Animals identified in accordance with identification specification (car notched, tattoo, car tag etc.).
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
- Prepares and records animal data
- Schedules routine husbandry activities
- Schedules sick animals for treatment
- Assist in the reproductive management of animals through the identification and recording of heats and services
- Assist in the weighing of animals at all stages of development
- Carry out deworming and spraying procedures as scheduled
- Administer topical treatment for minor injuries
- Effecting minor repairs to gates and watering systems
- Assists in the security of animals under care and report discrepancies to the Livestock Research Officer
- Ensure that pens are properly cleaned and sanitized on a daily basis
- Ensure that animals are properly fed and maintained daily
OTHER RESPONSIBILITY
- Performs any other related functions assigned from time to time.
- Data prepared according to required format and within the agreed time frame.
- Listings of animals for specified treatment are comprehensive and accurate at all times.
- Animal feeding activities are done completely and in accordance with established standards schedule.
- Effects cleaning and sanitation activities in agreement with established standards and schedule.
- Participation in herds reproductive activities done in accordance with established schedule.
- General care and maintenance of animals implemented in accordance with established schedules.
- Daily monitoring of animals in accordance with herd health and security guidelines.
- Weigh animals as schedule in a manner that us complete and efficient.

- Six (6) months job experience
