Cook (Kingston, Jamaica) - Bellevue Hospital

Job Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Head Cook, Production Manager, Assistant Dietitian the incumbent is responsible for the preparing of patients’ meals to meet meal service target time.

Key Responsibilities:

In carrying out the job functions, the cook shall have specific responsibility to:
  • Prepare all food items on menu according to standardize recipes
  • Receive and check food items from Production Manager
  • Do general baking for department and special hospital functions
  • Execute pre-preparation of food items
  • Follow prescribed recipes and methods of preparation
  • Portioned prepared menu items and stack on tray lines
  • Prepare pastries and sandwiches for meetings and functions
  • Inform Head Cook and Assistant Dietitian of leftovers, follow standard instructions for storage or use

Follow all safety and sanitation policy and procedures for food storage, preparation and services:
  • Clean and sanitize work area
  • Report non-functional equipment, safety threads and hazards to Production Manager and Assistant Dietitian
  • Make oral and written reports of all accidents to Production manager
Follow all Hospital and departmental policies and procedures:
  • Attend all departmental meetings
  • Attend all in-service training sessions
Required Qualification and Experience:
  • Certificate from Heart Trust NTA in Food and Beverage Preparation
  • At least one (1) year cooking experience preferably in a health care food service facility
  • Valid Food Handlers Permit
