Patient Care Assistant (Manchester, Jamaica, W.I.) - Percy Junor Hospital (SRHA)

 

The Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health & Wellness responsible for the management and operation of Public Health Services within the Parishes of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following position at PERCY JUNOR HOSPITAL: PATIENT CARE ASSISTANT (HSC/HS 5) – VACANT (salary range $1,657,751 -$1,970,545) per annum and any allowance (s) attached to the post). Under the general supervision of the Charge Nurse, provides basic patient care, including hygiene, preventive skincare, feeding, mobility, range of motion and application of safety measures to all patients.

Qualification and Experience

• Practical Nursing Certificate (HEART Certified-NCTVET Allied Health Care Level 2)
• Secondary School Education
• At least two (2) years’ experience as a Practical Nurse.

Duties and responsibilities

• Makes cribs and bassinettes where necessary
• Care of Hospital equipment e.g. suction machine
• Assists with diets i.e. serving, feeding and cleaning utensils
• Serves drinking water and washes drinking glasses
• Gives and removes bedpans and urinals, observes and reports contents
• Collects routine urine specimen
• Care of skin, mouth, hands and feet, nails
• Change patients’ gowns/clothing when necessary
• Combs and brushes patients’ hair
• Care of pressure areas, back sacrum, shoulders, elbows, heels, etc.
• Tidies patients’ environment for hand-over to next shift

Required Skills and Specialized Techniques:

• Ability to understand verbal and written instructions, and to work under guidance
• Able to communicate freely, for discussions with patients and supervisor
• Has a preference for helping people
• Conforms to rules and regulations, and co-operates with the rest of staff

Working Conditions:

• Normal hospital environment
